2012 - Best year in hip hop in awhile?

been thinkin' lately and a lot of good artists are really coming up lately. tons of good mixtapes have dropped already and the year is only halfway through it's 2nd quarter, leavin' space for a whole lot more.

for example (also if you're into hiphop peep some of these):

    schoolboy Q:

    casey veggies:

    big k.r.i.t.:

    curren$y:

el-producto (plus his album w/ killer mike is coming out inna week, it's probably gunna be fire):

    death grips:

kendrick lamar also has some great shit out right now (check out his album Section 80) and has a mixtape comin' out sometime this year.

in conclusion, i'm really thinkin' this could be one helluva good year, maybe even better than 2011 was. can't wait to see even more new artists later this yearrr

Yeah it's a good year for underground Hip-hop... However, the commercialized shit on the radio is at an all time low, it all sounds like Pop & R&B...

You forgot to mention Hopsin too, he's coming up..

yeah & Hopsin (may as well add Tech N9ne since it was pretty much only last year that he really blew up so I'm lookin' forward to what he puts out this year), but I yeah commercial hip-hop ain't doing too good, even kanye's verses on featured songs have been wack as fuck

no way - i'd say last year was the best in the last decade.

nothing this year has been overtly great. well, in terms of freshmen coming through. the hip-hop scene this year has seen:
    Wiz Khalifa's O.N.I.F.C (decent)
    Odd Future Mixtape (average)
    K.R.I.T's project was nothing special
Hodgy Beats' new tape was actually surprisingly good
    WZRD was a flop
    Tyga's Careless World was dope
    ScHoolboy Q was pre good
Curren$y's new fix has no replay value
Logic - probably the only new discovery this year, he came through

everything i've been hyped for has been mostly met with disappointment. still, redemption can be found in Tyler's upcoming Wolf, Lupe's Food & Liquor II and Nas' 'Life Is Good'... hopefully some new decent shit can get through.

Loooool. 2012 was decent, but not spectacular. John K you're full of shit, new krit was fire.

    I liked

    ex military- death grips
shao lin vs wu tang - raekwon
    random mos def/yasiin be shit
    godfather - lil b
    black up - shabazz palaces
    4evanaday - big k.r.i.t.

I mean the 1990's were really the epitome of rap. You can't really compare any new shit to 1993/1994/1995. I guess 2003-2004 was pretty good. You had college drop out/madvilliany/take me to your leader/black album/speakerboxxx.

yeah a$ap is really hittin' it big, dunno why i didn't put him in my OP come to think of it

ex military was frankly awful so i was surprised as fuck when the money store wasn't just actually tolerable but good shit.

and you can't compare anything coming year to 90's hiphop. that's like trying to compage classical music nowadays to shit from the beetoven era.

I disagree. I think that contemporary classical music has merit. Minimalism is a spectacular movement.

    2011>2012

    2011 had..
the rise of Odd Future (Goblin, BlackenedWhite, etc also released)
Mac Miller came through in big ways... Best Day Ever, Blue Slide Park
Section.80 - maybe the best album of the year. Kendrick Lamar pretty much slept on until Section.80, now he's one of the best out West
A$AP Mob blew up last year at the hands of A$AP Rocky and LiveLoveAsap, shit was tight
Childish Gambino?! his EP was fucking fiyah. and of course Camp was released which deserves a call out
Jay-Z & Kanye put out Watch The Throne
Bad Meets Evil came out last year, was aight
Big K.R.I.T did bring Return of 4eva in 2011 which is solid
    The Weeknd literally exploded

also in terms of more "mainstream rap"... Wiz Khalifa's 'Rolling Papers', Big Sean's 'Finally Famous', Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV', Drake's 'Take Care' and J. Cole's 'Sideline Story' came out last year which were all deece.

2011 was a fucking dope ass year for hip-hop.

2012 has a lot of work to do...
