    Things to make and sell

So long story short, my mom's been getting very depressed, and she's lost her sense of self-worth.

She hates her job, and as a result of that and other things, life. Note that she has to drive an hour to work and an hour back every day, and she's 59 years old.

I got an idea that I would really like to try for her, and she's agreed to set down and discuss some options and try it. (She said if she doesn't enjoy it/it aggravates her she won't.) The plan is, if this takes off, she would be eliminating a lot of stress from her life.
My idea is to set her up a website where she can sell products that she makes/draws. (Examples being knitting something/drawing a concept of something.)
However, as she stated, things like knitting take to long, and she would hardly make any money from it because she can only make so many.

So what are some things she could make?

I'm gonna do my best to help her get this off of the ground, and I'll do what it takes; I just need some ideas, of which I don't have many.

    Thanks guys

    -W77

I mean there is so much competition for this type of thing, your best bet is to make personalized like knitted hats for babies. She could also make some matching socks to go with them and box them up really nice. If you want anymore help feel free to PM me.

    Try using Etsy.com
It would save you alot of work and get her to reach a broader audience.
My aunt started using etsy and she got 7 orders in 2 months - which is quite alot

Knitting takes a long ass time even for small items.

She's better off making baked goods (breads, muffins, cookies, etc) and taking them to your local farmers market.

Could also have a small garden, grow some tomatoes, corn, etc. Gardening would be more physically demanding than baking but can yield more results.

Home made jewelry is also a good idea. Bead necklaces, bracelets, clay items, paint designs onto raw clay jewelry. If she's really good at painting and stuff like that, she could make $100+ on custom pendants.

Of course, the problem is getting your name out there.

Thanks for the tips so far guys, and thanks for the website.
I think I'm just going to use it for item ideas, however.

As for reaching an audience, our initial attempt is going to be to post something on kickstarter.com
After that I'll make her website and figure something out from there.

I know the odds are slim, but I can't give up without trying. I'm afraid this stress will be her demise.

    Easier said than done.

And between eBay and PayPal you lose an insane amount of money to fees.

I used to make a few duct tape wallets in my spare time, and I actually managed to sell them on ebay.

If she is decent at sketching maybe she could set up a cheap portraiture business in which the customer sends in a picture of themselves and she sketches them from that and maybe even paint it. Could be viable I guess.

Not sure but it seems like this thread should be posted under personal support.

    /move thread

But about your mom, idk if you have rsgp maybe start doing some staking methods or do bossing on rs and make some gp and sell it, or invest in some computers and run a bot farm and sell the gp from that. KMJT has a great guide that you might be able to buy/get off of him that describes EVERYTHING you'de need to know to get started with that, but ovc you need money to make money.

Hope things go well for your mum

If you are good at buying and selling, people suggested ebay, but try craigslist as well. Use both ebay and craigslist b/c ebay takes a certain percent of your sales while craigslist doesn't. Just make sure you go with her for any sales she does in person.

Simple clothing items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats can sell well if you have good designs, and are very easy to make in bulk. I am going to be getting into the t-shirt business soon myself, and so far my lowest production costs can be down to $4.80 per t-shirt (that including all the materials+shipping of the materials for that t-shirt), which is pretty good if you're just starting out. Plus as I stated earlier these items can be bought very easily in bulk, which makes it easy to just put the designs onto the item via a few different techniques.

Really hard I guess.. Make something that's fast to produce but you can still make money off, or buy items cheap on amazon/ebay and sell them higher, or start dealing .. Nah, don't try that ;)
