Are alienware desktops upgradeable?

I have about 800$ in store credit at microsoft store since they are very easy to obtain ( 1k gc for 50% ) and i wanted to know which are the best for the price because first i would be getting this all free.

Like Verts said, any desktop is upgradable. Some would say Alienware is overpriced though.

Well, they do both look overpriced they're pretty good though. If you want a desktop, why not build your own? It's cheaper and you can have a system exactly how you want it.

 

I agree, they are overpriced and if there was a way to change that credit out I would do it. GO WITH THE DESKTOP YES desktops are up gradable =) and you can easily upgrade this one if needed.Just make sure you know all of the components in it.

 

I wouldn't get the laptop at all unless you needed one. laptops are disposable pieces of garbage, and it will probably be really outdated and dead within the next couple of years.. Not only that but the resale value on those are pretty low. Probably just get the desktop, leave it in the box and wrapper and sell it the minute you get it if you plan on doing that.

 

I would just build your own, Alienware is so overpriced since you are paying for the name.

 

With the money you spend on any alienware computer, you can build a bitchin desktop.

Much like designer clothes, nearly 50% of the price you're paying is buying the "Alienware" logo slapped on the tower. As said before, just build your own with quality and inexpensive parts from www.newegg.com. They have really good insurance policies on their parts too, so it's easy to get replacement parts if something breaks or doesn't work right

 

I think that he is saying he has store credit and if that is the case, then buying parts from other stores would not be possible.

 

Oooh missed that part... he could always buy the equivalence of his store credit in merchandise, and resell the stuff he gets for cash.. but he'd probably have a bit of a loss afterwards. He'd probably still have enough cash left to buy something better than alienware

 

They have a lot of laptops and computers.

I might just buy a computer then keep it. I just want to know if their products are good quality not some junk hardware they put on and sell it for high price like HP and etc. B

 

I'd be looking to swap your points with someone for $$. Alienware is over priced, and comparable to nice cars like Porsche, you're only paying for the name.

Definitely keep in mind that with the money you spend on an Alienware computer, that could've been invested in a shit-all-over-the-competition computer homebuild, for maybe even less than their asking price.

Those are the specs on the x51. Go with it, it's a desktop, specs are nice, you are not paying out of pocket, and again it's a desktop so you can always upgrade if needed.

 

+1. With the upgrade on runescape, you can easily play max hd now with no problem at all. botting would be much better now as well..

As others suggested, sell the credits here on sythe or get that computer and re sell it perhaps, one of the two. You're paying double just for the alienware logo.

 

With that computer you're paying a price premium for the small form factor in addition to the alienware name. That's also going to limit the upgrades you can do because there's probably not a lot of extra room in the case for things like a larger video card or another HD. It also only has a 330-watt PSU, which I doubt could handle much higher load than the factory default.

 

I'm sure nobody will buy a Microsoft Gift card because they are limited to what you can buy in stores. The only thing that may interest people at the microsoft store are the upcoming WP8 phones and Xbox 360's. I could sell them but then nobody would like to pay 90-95% of retail price :\ .
