Help someone knows my IP!

Kind of a computer newb, but someone has my ip and I'm afraid. He said he'd send me a virus and I don't want to ruin my new sony vaio. Do you think he was trying to threaten me and scare me? (if he was, it worked). Can you even hack someone with just their IP? And what are some nice protection programs or downloads I can use?

 

Sounds like he's indeed just trying to scare you. You should be alright, just make sure you have a firewall going (Windows firewall is fine). If your really paranoid just change your IP Address.

 

I don't think people can hack you via your IP. It's very easy to gain somebodys IP adress, and if you could hack you just off somebodys IP then trust me there would be a lot more hackers around. You can get somebodys IP from MSN, Skype, anything like that. He can't do anything to your computer directly, apart from take down your internet for a few minutes. If you want to change your IP, then eithe reset your router (if you have a dynamic IP) or call your ISP (if you have a static IP) and tell them you believe somebody is DDoSing you

 

He can't just send you a virus if he knows your IP, there are programs to see people's IPs just about everywhere.. doesn't mean you can do much with it except maybe figure out a location to a certain extent.

 

You can't do much with a IP, just ring up your ISP and explain your problem and they might be able to help you. I don't know much but my friend has a problem with her IP and she got it changed ringing up Virgin.

 

He can't actually hack you only by knowing the IP, he may be able to DDoS you although it's very easy to ring your ISP up, explain what is happening and have them change your IP for you. There's nothing to worry about, you're fine.

 

First of all he can't send programs through an ip adress lol.

Secondly, you can get a new ip adress by giving your router a new mac adress.
