Are you allowed to disclose what's led you to believe the database leak is just a ruse?

 

From what I know, apparently the owner of a Hacking Forum entered the Sythe IRC and posted some lines from a random Database and said "Ha, Hacked your Database." He then went to offer it for sale on his website. He later revealed he didn't actually have access to the Database and never hacked it.

This is just from what I've seen around, I could be wrong.

 

Ex* Owner. The site was just sold today.

That URL clearly says sythe.com. This site is sythe.org. Obvious phisher

Glad you guys figured it out, hopefully the compromised database was just a timed rouse

 

Even though the leak was just hearsay, I'd still recommend everyone take this time to understand just how easy an online profile is compromised. Don't believe that just because this is a rouse, that it can't ever happen.

Great job staff, thanks to n4n0 and Verts especially for helping people with difficulties. Glad to hear the leak wasn't "legit".

 

Was handled well by staff, unfortunately large gp sellers such as arcus got fucked over badly. Last I heard he owes over 12b in stuff to people because of his msn getting hacked and more than likely has hundreds of people still trying 2 make false claims against him to try 2 make some money themselves.

 

Most of those reports lack proof, so I don't think it's alot from what I've seen.

I do genuinely think those people got scammed by the hacker, but simply didn't have screenshots of trading ingame :\

 

Having initially believed the database to be hacked, I spoke to someone who claimed to have it and he gave me some very bullshit and bogus proof. It does seem indeed that this was a coincidence with the msn hackings but regardless, it never hurts to keep your passwords updated often
