    Hacked Scams

So due to the site being hacked, a number of users are getting hacked. One of the main ones I noticed was Arcus Isdiar, 3 people so far have reported that his hacker has scammed them. 2 of these 3 people are newcomers with < 20 posts on this site. Now this brings into question, are these people really being scammed or are they the hacker who is faking a scam of himself to get more?

Was just thinking this myself, and I've seen like almost 5 scam reports for just Arcus alone, it could all just be a scam attempt, or it could be seriously legit.
All I know is that Arcus is banned atm, and that must suck big fat chode, considering he's donated $2500+ to Sythe alone.

Who has to pay that back? If it was a Sythe security issue, then that's not fair if he has to pay it all back. But then again, people would start faking being hacked...

Just to make things clear, every one of these hacking claims are being VERY carefully reviewed. Those of you who were around for my fake hacking/sting will no doubtedly remember exactly how many false claims were made.

If anything, it taught us how to better gauge and investigate further hacking incidents. Rest assured that we're not taking any of this lightly, and any false claims will be punished.

Honestly that's why I don't even believe this. I feel like it's another trick to check for fake claims and ban the bad apples.

Scam claims will need sufficient proof of the transaction taking place. The good thing is Arcus won't have to pay out fake claims but the bad news is there will most likely be people who actually transacted with him who just lost out.

FireZ is right. That kind of stunt is something that we try to avoid, but sometimes it does need to be done. Either way, this isn't one of those cases.

If the database is leaked, then the worst that can happen is a members Sythe account can be accessed, Sythe doesn't contain any MSN passwords though, so unless a members Sythe password is the same as there MSN's (Which isn't the Staffs fault) then the MSN hackings can't be related to the Database hack.

Over the years I've been here I'm seen some very realistic false Scam Reports, I can remember one maybe a year ago/Year and a half ago, where Plznate was nearly banned, but someone spotted it was a fake. So I'm sure the staff know that extra care needs to be taken in most cases regarding Scam Reports, especially where a member is hacked.

Fake hack/sting? Can you explain what happened? Did you fake being hacked to see who would file a scam report, to catch liars?

You've hit the nail on the head :)

Here's a link to a thread N4N0 created claiming his MSN was hacked, and that he would be repaying members who were scammed back. (His MSN was, however never hacked, he was just seeing if anyone would lie.) http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1288352

Here's a link to the thread an Administrator created confirming N4N0's MSN wasn't hacked and it as indeed a Sting Operation. http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1288993

Have a look on the last page of the above thread as well at the post made by Nick.

He clearly stats on his RSGP thread not to trade with him as his MSN has been hacked. I have noticed that alot of gold sellers have been targeted recently, such as BSGPSeller, kmjt and the topic of this thread, Arcus Isidar. There could be a team of people using the automated dictionary hacks to crack their passwords?

What I'm trying to get at here is :

Hacker can't scam anyone because they all know he's hacked, hacker gets his friend or himself and fakes a scam then posts a report.

Basically to fix this you could say if the user has posted clearly stating they are hacked atleast 1 hour before the trade then it is the other users fault.

It's possible, there have been groups of Banned Sythe members who act like idiots and have a fair amount of knowledge about hacking pestering Sythe Staff and attempting (Sometimes succeeding) to scam them.

But I believe the staff would want us to step back and let them handle these situations. If we see anything suspicious, sure report it to the staff but I don't really think it's up for us to talk about who or how it's being done.

Just so everyone knows, I already have paid back $2790 to one person who was scammed by the hacker of my worker who had solid indefinet proof that he traded me.

However, this could of been avoided if people would of asked for a PM. I indicated on my buying/selling threads that my worker has a Sythe account to PM people on, and her sythe account was not hacked.

If they can show proof of a trade occurring with trade screenshots then he will refund them. The one who was refunded had the required proof to show he was scammed the other's had chat logs where we have no way of knowing it was actually 1-2b+ traded or less.
