[How to] Ruin a phisher's day {Going beyond the "Report" button}

Yeah, I don't think I could be bothered doing it! Too much effort. But a good, informative guide none the less.

 

Thanks to this guide, I easily reported 2 RS phishing sites in just 30 minutes. Now I shall sit and wait for responses/results lol.

very well put together guide, great job and great info. to all those who say "you will never get rid of phishers on runescape" though that may be true to an extent following through with the methods this guide provides will let jagex know how big of a problem and an annoyance this really is. Everyone can report and i admit reporting does seem entirely futile but this is above and beyond that and every little bit helps.

 

This is a great idea, it's time to start phisher fishing. D)

Thank you very much! Although I've never been phished, I have a deep dislike for them. Especially the ones who use phished accounts to spam the youtube video. I'm going to try this out when I have time.

 

Not to advocate phishing but all this depends on which host they are using.

If you look into offshore hosting you will see many of them allow phishing, and will probablly forward your abuse report to their client so they can get a laugh out of it.

Then, that client will have access to the e-mail you sent, which means he will have access to the headers, which means he will know your IP address and your e-mail address.

This means that going through the proxy to hide your IP didn't do any good.

This also means he can DDos You if he wants to.

Just as putting a image on your website that says "Guaranteed HackerProof!" is akin to putting up a sign that says Hack Me! Hack Me! reporting a phisher to his host and then giving him your IP address is not a good idea.

This wont work for offshore hosts.

 

Just reported my first phishing site. I'm glad I bookmarked this for reference. It was a dot-tk though -- so I hope that means dot-tk is the host (cause it's them who I emailed). I used your first template, too!

Edit, the phrase "dot-tk" is censored on this ****** forum for some reason...

 

Nice idea. Subscribed the thread and will go back and do this when I can. Got around 8 different sites so far that keep spamming up my spambox lol. They are all from one host though.

unless you are hosting child porn or selling drugs, most hosting sites simply do not care. As long as the client is paying $$$, they are going to side with the client because they are a business.
