    Internet Explorer

With the help from a couple of others, I am going to be starting an anti Internet Explorer campaign.

It's going to be towards people that know nothing about computers, and people who think they know it all. (I say think because they are using Internet Explorer.)

With that said, I would love some background/survey information from all of the willing people at Sythe.

If you would like to participate just copy this, fill in the answers, and paste it below. All of your feedback/thoughts are greatly appreciated!

    For those who use I.E.
    1) Why do you use Internet Explorer?
    2) What version of Internet Explorer are you running?
    3) Would you ever consider switching from Internet Explorer?
    4) If so, what would it take?
    5) If not, why not?
    6) Any and all thoughts about Internet Explorer and any other browsers that my come to mind.

For those who don't use I.E.
    1) What browser do you use?
    2) What version of that browser are you running?
    3) Why do you use that browser?
    4) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.)
    5) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind.
    6) Any/all thoughts about any browsers.

    Thanks guys!
    -W77

    Extra (added after post):
E1) Is your native language something other than English, and if so, would you be willing to record yourself doing a simple remake of parts of a video in said language? The plan is that you would (for the most part) just set there and read a script. (Trying to make it not sound dull though.)
Then you could say you were a part of the anti Internet Explorer movement :D. Eh?
-I'm also sorry to say I won't be able to pay for it. If insurance and gas didn't completely empty my wallet in a matter of days the case would be different.
-You would also have to use your own equipment for obvious reasons.
Note: at the current time I should (could easily replace that with might) be able to get two people to do Spanish and Chinese versions. Unsure if they would be willing to support this movement or not though. So I'm still open to those languages, provided you have an HD camera. (720p and up.) <- Just want to make sure everything is of top quality.

E2) When the anti Internet Explorer campaign/movement/whatever you wish to call it gets released, provided that its arguments are ones that you like and agree with, would you share a link of it with your friends?

    Thanks again!

    Internet Explorer

Should probably be in Technology section, interesting thread nonetheless.

    1) What browser do you use? Mozilla Firefox.
    2) What version of that browser are you running? At the moment, the latest one 11.0.
    2) Why do you use that browser? Its usually had high reviews and I've always found it to be reasonably fast and quite secure.
    3) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.) It's not as good as it was and Microsoft aren't really focused on IE anymore, it's still an ok browser but more and more people are saying it's not very good any more.
    4) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind. Firefox has more features than IE and higher reviews, it's also more well maintained now than IE is and is more likely to have problems fixed with it than IE will.
    5) Any/all thoughts about any browsers.
    Firefox - Suits my needs.
Chrome - Overhyped, although I would recommend it if you were using a less powerful PC.
Opera - Actually a decent browser, just not that popular.

    1) What browser do you use? Firefox

    2) Why do you use that browser? It is fast and runs well on my laptop.
    3) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.) It always runs slow on my laptop and error's.
    4) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind. Firefox is much faster and runs much better.
    5) Any/all thoughts about any browsers. Chrome is also another browser I use as it seems to run fast for me aswell.

Other browsers are faster and simpler, which are the two main things that everyone looks for.

Use whatever makes you happy, but make sure to try them all to determine that first.

    Internet Explorer

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far!
Figured I might as well answer my own questions while I'm here.

    1) What browser do you use?
    Google Chrome
    2) What version of that browser are you running?
    The latest version.
    2) Why do you use that browser?
Because Firefox stopped being acceptable in my eyes when I started to experience frequent crashes and having to deal with the browser freeze for approx. a minute at a time.
Google Chrome runs into issues like this much less often, namely because it runs each tab as its own process. I.E. If one locks up, the rest are fine.
It also supports addons just the same as Firefox.
    3) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.)
The reasons I previously hated it was because 1) it was released by Microsoft 2) I hated the feel of it, 3) I rebelled against the fact the Microsoft tried to force it upon all Windows users, and 4) it was always too slow for my liking.
Lately (after I started developing web pages) I discovered a new found hate with Internet Explorer because Microsoft is stubborn as hell when it comes to supporting the typical W3 standards.
They are adamant on trying to create and force their own web standards to people. For obvious reasons these never took off, and the only purpose they have served is making developers lives hell.
Any website that you see running correctly on Internet Explorer probably does so because the coder "hacked" the code to make it support I.E.
There's other stuff I could go into but this would start to turn into a bloody essay.
    4) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind.
What I said above. Too much to cover without making this lengthy.
Will all be in the campaign though ;)
    5) Any/all thoughts about any browsers.
    My preference of browsers:
Chrome->Firefox->Opera->Safari->Every no name browser ever developed->Internet Explorer.
Chrome > Firefox for the reason above. Firefox is still good in my eyes.
I'd say Opera and Safari are tied, but I don't have much experience with either and I've only ever used Safari on a PC. (It was years ago and it was quite laggy.)
Every other browser in the world > Internet Explorer because, well it's Internet Explorer dammit!

    -W77

Note: added a little bit more.

For those who don't use I.E.
    1) What browser do you use?
A lot, mainly Chrome but I'm trying to get away from it. Firefox nightly right now. Opera for other things..
I use different browsers to organize my tabs and stuff.

    2) What version of that browser are you running?
    Newest, it's always the newest.

    2) Why do you use that browser?
It's a beta and gets updated more than other browsers. Regular firefox basically because it's fast and just like chrome, but not chrome.

    3) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.)
Slow, more vulnerable, default.. Anyone who uses default programs is retarded..

    4) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind.
Just get used to something else. When windows isn't around anymore, you're gonna have to anyway.

    5) Any/all thoughts about any browsers.

Use more than one so you get the best of everything..

I know it's not what I'm after with this survey, but do you mind me asking why you don't like Chrome? Don't get me wrong, I like FF and Chrome, but I'm just curious.

Makes me happy to know I'm not the only one anticipating the demise of Micro$oft.

    1) Why do you use Internet Explorer? No point in using another though I do have firefox downloaded in the rare occurrence that I need another browser

    2) What version of Internet Explorer are you running? IE9

    3) Would you ever consider switching from Internet Explorer? If it actually helped me in some way

    4) If so, what would it take? Something I could actually use and would use often that IE doesn't have.

    5) If not, why not?

    6) Any and all thoughts about Internet Explorer and any other browsers that my come to mind. Really as long as you have a relatively decent computer and can say the same for your internet connection there shouldn't be a "speed" problem with any browser you use. and IE can be as safe as you want it you just need to know what you're doing.

    1) What browser do you use? Firefox

    2) What version of that browser are you running? 10.0.2 (Haven't updated due to an important add-on I use isn't compatible yet with 11.0)

    3) Why do you use that browser? It's the best without a doubt. Nothing can beat it and it's very easy to use. I especially love the mac version of Firefox. Runs super speed and I have tested it with Google Chrome to compare.

    4) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.) I personally lost interest with it after I found Firefox. IE was a very slow browser and there are so many unnecessary add-ons I can't remove with IE which slows my experience. Don't ever plan on trying any other browser and sticking to Firefox. I even disabled IE completely on my computer that it is pretty much impossible to run without opening the source and removing a code I added to block it on my PC.

    5) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind.
Get with the program mate. Firefox is the way to go. Dump IE, live Firefox! :)

    6) Any/all thoughts about any browsers.
Google Chrome is pretty good as well. It is pretty simple though and it's mainly used for browsing and nothing else. It's a "back-up" in case Firefox fucks up or something like that.

    Internet Explorer

    1) What browser do you use? I use Google Chrome at home, Safari at work
    2) What version of that browser are you running? The latest, whatever it autoupdates to. Safari 10 at work, I have yet to run through and update all our Macs
    3) Why do you use that browser? I'm much impressed with Chrome's speed. It's true it lacks extensive plugin features and apps compared to firefox, but I'm not one to bog down a browser with frivolous applications. I like the sleek, simplistic design and functionality of Chrome.
    4) What are the reasons you don't like Internet Explorer. (If you don't care that's a valid answer too.) I don't have any technical reasons. I simply hate the feel, the functions of the tabs, the choppiness of all its features, etc.
    5) What information would you say to someone who uses Internet Explorer in order to change their mind. People seem ready to believe one browser loads pages faster than other browsers, and maybe it does. I haven't noticed a difference in loading times or tried to compare them, but firefox and chrome features seem to work faster, and have much less bugs, and exibit much less crashes.. that's usually enough to convince people.
    6) Any/all thoughts about any browsers. IE has always seemed intrusive, the fact that you can only disable it rather than uninstal it, how much memory it takes up when running a duanting amount of tabs, it's just a heavy program it seems.

E1 and 2, yes I'm english, but probably no to either of the extra questions. I can stumble across a cause I really really believe in, but I absolutely HATE when people send me a bunch of shared SUPPORT THIS!! links on facebook, so I'd never force that on someone else. Additionally, I dislike the sound of my voice through a recorder, so no. I wouldn't want myself in any sort of video

    Internet Explorer

Seeing that you're on Sythe I'm going off that fact that you aren't a complete tech noob, so I'm hoping you will listen to some reason and heed these words I preach.

Based on your argument and basing off the way I'm guessing you think, the biggest thing that you're missing out on is the beauty of web pages.

No matter how much shit Micro$oft fans and employees let spew from their mouthes, there is no version if Internet Explorer that supports near as much as the two leading browsers. (Chrome and Firefox.)
Even in the browser that "is really better - no really, they promise!" (IE9), there's still a lot of CSS features that are unsupported.
The reason for this boils down to two things:
    1) Laziness/lack of intelligence in coders/project leaders.
    2) The fact that Micro$oft is trying to create their own standards for the web, and they tend to ignore the W3 standards.
They've been doing this for years and it's about damn time they fucking stop!
It really does piss developers off. Look at what one web admin had on his website for a while.

This lack of support means 2 things:
    1) Most of the stuff you do see is because the writers of said web pages spent a number of hours "hacking" the code to support Internet Explorer.
Even with that hacking it still won't support the typical W3 standards, and that means you are missing out and you don't even know it!
    2) Many web pages are not as amazing as they could be if there was no I.E. in the first place.

If for some odd reasons you don't care about that, there is still the security and crashes.
"IE can be as safe as you want it you just need to know what you're doing"
    FALSE
You don't know what's running server-side behind all of those web pages and what happens with all of the data packets you are sending and receiving.

Best hope your CC info doesn't get stolen, aye?

It's not like switching a browser takes a lot of effort from you.
It's free and literally takes seconds!

And a few things to know about Chrome:
    1) Each tab runs as a separate process. With that said, if one crashes/locks up, the rest continue to run fine.
    2) You can install addons to the browser, making it exactly how you want.
    3) You can sign into the browser with your google account.
If you do that and you sign into a Chrome browser on another computer, all of your information/bookmarks will be transferred!

And (not trying to insult you), using Internet Explorer makes you look stupider.
There have been IQ tests on the internet, and IE users scored way lower than Chrome/FF, and many didn't even finish it.

It's also generally thought by many people, and though people may not say anything to you, it makes you look bad.

The decision to switch to Chrome/FireFox is really a good one, and I'm not just saying that because I dislike Micro$oft.
If you don't want to switch because it's better for you, you should at least switch because it's better for the web as a whole.

And if you still refuse to switch, would you please explain why?

    Cheers
