Help me decide what macbook pro to get.

First off, I don't care how expensive they are. I love them. I've had my old one for over 2 years and have basically had it running 24/7 since. I can't stand typing on anything but a mac. Never been hacked etc.

So its been over 2 years since I ordered my last macbook pro, all I remember about it is that its 15 inch lol.

Before even customizing, lets compare their standard listed 15 inch macbook pros (15 inch is what I want):

    15-inch: 2.2 GHz
    2.2GHz quad-core
    Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz
    500GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB GDDR5
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
    In Stock
    Free Shipping
    $1,749.00
    financing available

    15-inch: 2.4 GHz
    2.4GHz quad-core
    Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz
    750GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1GB GDDR5
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
    In Stock
    Free Shipping
    $2,049.00

First a very important factor. If I buy the 2.2 I get $100 off for being a student. If I buy the 2.4 they give me $200 off, not just $100. That means the difference between the 2 standard models is only $100 instead of $200 without the education discount. Would you say I might as well just get the 2.4 if it is only $100 extra or is there not really a difference between the specs?

    Lets assume I go with the 2.4. Should I upgrade from 2.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 to 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 for $230?

I'll explain what this laptop is for. Basically everything. I'm going to have lots of applications open at once. Botting clients, runescape itself, excel, word, streaming shows online, msn, etc. Which leads me to my next option.

    Should I upgrade from 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x2GB to 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB for $189?

Do I really need a hard drive upgrading seeing how I don't plan on actually downloading anything and storing it on my laptop? Here are the upgrade options:

    750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm [Add $45.00]
128GB Solid State Drive [Add $90.00]
256GB Solid State Drive [Add $450.00]
512GB Solid State Drive [Add $990.00]

I forget what display I got on my old macbook pro. Any suggestions?:

MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display [Add $90.00]
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display [Add $135.00]

Lord that's overpriced.. Forreal, look into something else..

Anyway if you do get the pissbook, go with the 2.2ghz.. There's really no difference, it's the same processor just clocked higher.. The gpu isn't that good either, considering you could get a laptop with a 3.4ghz quad core i7 with a 560m for the same pric. Really, look at how much you're paying for each component.. It's ridiculous.

    I would get this one,

    15-inch: 2.4 GHz
    2.4GHz quad-core
    Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz
    750GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1GB GDDR5
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
    In Stock
    Free Shipping
    $2,049.00

It just seems like if your paying out that much for a nice Mac, you might aswell spend a little extra and get a the best one right. As for upgrades you don't really need to if you are not planning on using it for downloading anything.

Just to add something positive, you can sell your Macbook later on for a little to none loss because applefanatics buy them for some serious cash.

I'm not sure how where you're getting a $100 difference between the computers, it looks like the education discount brings it from a $400 difference to a $300 difference. You wouldn't notice the difference in graphics cards unless you're gaming, and the difference between 2.2 and 2.4 will be pretty minimal. Getting a SSD would be the biggest performance upgrade, especially if you don't plan on storing much. The 1680x1050 screen would probably be nice too. 4gb of ram should be fine, and you can upgrade it yourself much cheaper later if you need. So I'd probably get the 2.2ghz with a SSD and a screen upgrade. If you want to spend another $300 then get the 2.4 with the upgrades, but I'd go with the SSD and screen over the better CPU

Clashfan is right. Upgrade to the 128GB SSD and higher display resolution.

There isn't much difference between the processors. I'd go for the cheaper one, but obviously it depends on how much money you want to burn.

There is NO difference in the processors except they clocked it 200mhz higher..

The screen and SSD upgrade are really all that make sense.

Thanks guys. I was debating whether or not to get the 8gb RAM instead of 4gb since I always have tons of applications open at once (multiple runescape clients, botting clients, msn, internet browsers, streaming shows online, vnc viewer, etc.). Any opinions?

I would definitely say get the 15 inch 2.4 GHz MacBook pro because its a mere $100 extra you will be paying.

    Should I upgrade from 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x2GB to 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB for $189? I would.

Let me get this out of the way...HOLY SHIT THAT IS A LOT OF OVERPRICED SHIT!!!!!

Okay sorry, if you run a lot of things at once you should bump up to 8gb of ram.

My opinion, buy a different brand of laptop then dual boot the mac os so you can get better components for less.

Money is not an issue and I personally enjoy using a mac a lot more then windows laptops.

Any more opinions before I order? Need this soon.

If you're comfortable installing the ram yourself (and it doesn't void the warranty) I'd get it elsewhere, it'd probably cost less than half as much.

I'd have no clue lol. I'm the type of person who pays a higher price for convenience to save time. My hometown when i'm not away at university is also very small, so I don't think there would be any place to get this done.

    Thanks :D

If you're going to run several bots then you might want to get more RAM. Otherwise you're unlikely to need it.

Actually the 2.4GHz one is more likely to be a newer revision of the chip and thus be a little better, yet still have the same power consumption as the other, probably older one.

I would bet that changing it in any way will void the warranty unless it is done by an authorized professional.

changing it won't void the warranty i have changed my macbook pro to a 8gb from 4gb it wil cost you way and way less then apple charges you so i recommend buying the 8gb of a other site from a brand like kingston.
