    Is it that bad to..?

    I've been wondering if you scam someone on runescape for example you are making them emotionally sad or mad etc even if it is just a game right?Well if you scammed someone in real life they'd still be feeling the same way correct?IMO I believe in karma (What goes around comes around).Do you think its worse to scam someone online or in real life for the equal amount of money.Would karma apply to virtual world?

    Personally,In the past i've seen people scam others mainly my friend who then went into the wilderness with all of his money and died with it on accident ofc.He was in a rush to get to his target in which he forgot all his money in his inventory then disconnected and died.(Back when money pouch didn't exist)

    Q1-So,does karma apply to the virtual world such as runescape scamming luring etc.
    Q2-Is it worse to scam someone online or in the real world or is there no difference in your opinion.

    Thanks,
    DrDre

    I have no opinion about Karma, so I can't really answer your first question.

    In my opinion I think scamming two people for the exact same amount of money, one IRL, one is a virtual world is equally as bad.
    Habits that you pickup in a virtual world can lead to habits you carry out in the real world. Stealing/Scamming shouldn't be condoned anywhere.

    But that's just my opinion... =D

    First Karma isn't real, how can you explain - logically - a cosmic counter for good and evil tasks when there are no ultimate moral standards of the universe.

    Now if we beg the hypothetical question and assume that karama was real, then why wouldn't it apply online? Karama is doing wrong to another human being and then in turn something wrong happens to you, so unless your concept of other humans on the internet is that they aren't humans then of course karama would apply.

    This thread is really ludicrous though and quite laughable honestly. No offense or anything but the scenario you are proposing is just funny because you are lacking the basic understanding of Karma.

    This may help with your understanding:

    Scamming someone online is taking advantage of people who are not aware of say how the online selling and buying works. Some people might not be computer savy and get scammed but not in real life. Yes I believe it is just as bad and you should get arrested for it.

    I would think it's less wise to scam someone in person as you never know what that person is capable of while on the internet you're hidden behind your computer. Now with that said, I still don't believe scamming is appropriate and believe that what goes around comes around, karma.

    I live my life by set of morals and standards i do not break. Karma imo does not exsit, I am nice person and I do good things however bad things happen to me , worse things then a mate of mine who lives by a much more low code of morals and standards. I would not like to be scammed on scape, so I dont waste my time, more money and fun in legimit player / pking and glitching.

    Is it that bad to..?

    A reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy long time ago when I was probably like 12 or something (I'm currently 19), I had a really amazing friend on Runescape. He seriously was one of the best friends I could make. One day I made the worst decision ever, and he lent me his Robin and ranger boots and I logged out with them.

    Literally the second I logged out I burst into tears at what I had done...but for some reason I decided to keep the items instead of get my friend back :/

    I really think it's equal. The time and effort one puts into getting their items and what it means to them doesn't matter virtually or realistic because it's the same.

    @Emperor_Nero

    Thanks for opinion + link.I asked this question because I did lack the understanding
    of karma,but in this situation I see your point as being correct.Thanks for feedback again.

    @Pennyroyal

    Well your friend might have problems and you might not be seeing them straight up.
    Alot of people have big problems but never show it in real life.I think good people
    will be rewarded when the time comes whenever that may be,whilst bad people
    in general will slowly and gradually pay for what they did.Thanks for input!

    @Herman Li

    I've heard similiar stories like that its something you might regret/ think about in the
    future for example like right now and can't really get over ya'kno what I mean?
    Thanks for feedback.

    Thanks for feedback to everyone else as well.

    You never know who could be on the other end of a scam, the person might have spent a lot of irl money to buy gp or items, or they might be one of those people who are deeply attached to RS. But tbh, you don't know these things because you are sitting on a computer and so are they. Whether it is worse than scamming someone irl, depends on your morals. I think it could be in some cases, especially if the victim rwted, because you are still depriving them of items that they paid for.

    For Karma, I don't think it exists. It's just down to luck sometimes and it can drive you into thinking that you are being punished for something. There's plenty of people who have done terrible things in their lives, and have still gone on to living comfortably.

    I believe in karma. I also believe the intent behind the action has more input than the action itself.

    As jesus said, you reap what you sow.

    I don't think it makes you a bad person IRL.

    People do it all the time. Life goes on.

    I think a scam online can be just the same as a scam in real life. The effects they have on people are definitely not the same.

    I think it's almost accepted and depicted that online communities harvest people who want your bank details, your Paypal details, who will try and hack accounts for their own personal gain. To be scammed or taken advantage of online, while it could be particularly upsetting at times, is almost... normal.

    I'd argue it would be completely different to have this done in real life. To have someone manipulate you in ways that they take your own personal items in the flesh could seem far more cruel. I would personally be devastated at this more than having it done to me online.

    It's sadly expected to be targeted online.

    It really depends, I've had friends who've been phished/scammed and talked to me a week or two later, glad that their lives weren't revolving around a video game anymore.

    Well, its equally bad be it real life or virtual life.
    It just reflects your character and sooner or later that scamming you will be shown in real life.

    You may think you can hide behind the protection of your computer but it will bite you back when it becomes a bad habit.
