Alright, so I told my date to prom that I'm not going to dance to that stupid music they play nowadays, and my other friend said the music isn't that bad. So I'm here to ask, what kind of music will be there, and how do I dance to it? Also, I told her I'd dance to slow music because it's easy, but I'm 6'2 and she's short so idk how she's going to put her arms around my neck lol.

Lol, I don't think you can grind at prom, last year kids got in trouble for doing it I heard. As for the fist pump... lol. I looked up some videos on youtube but they weren't really helpful.

I guess go with the flow, at my prom there were a ton of different types of music so everyone could dance to the favourite.

All people do nowadays is bump and grind espcially at my high school. It's sad what dancing has turned into for teens.

Yeah I most likely won't do that dancing shit, not sure yet still gotta think about it. I'm more into metal and soft 90's music like Goo Goo Dolls and Dashboard Confessionals and shit lol. I like all kinds of music besides the stupid club type music they have nowadays.

    Hey man,

As a guy who went through this last year (and probably this year), you just gotta let go of your insecurities. Just sway with the beat a little. Look at what other people are doing. Can you imitate anything that your friends are doing? It's not really that bad. You just gotta remember that it's one night, why not have a little fun with it. Nobody's going to look back and say "Hey, remember pur3bloody at prom? He danced so weird!". Now, I'm not saying to start break dancing in front of everyone, but move around a bit, stay on your toes, and you'll be fine. Enjoy yourself! :)

No grinding allowed at prom!? That would suck :p at my school literally everyo anyne is grinding at the end. Anyways just have some fun, like cescfabregas said, no one will remember if you danced a little weird. They're more likely to remember you if you sit in the corner not dancing like a creep. Also, your date will have much more fun too :D

You'll be fine, just do what you do best: Act yourself and you'll be fine. Girls like confidence. Just don't sweat it or be nervous. :)

I used to be terrified of doing any sort of dancing that wasn't a simple slow dance, as I just felt too silly and awkward. But I don't really know what happened... as I got older, I just started to give it a try, usually when pissed drunk at parties lol, and after awhile you realize nobody really cares what you look like. And truthfully, the girls actually love guys who get out there and dance with them and have a good time and if you can round up some of your boys to get out on the dance floor with you then all should be fine. Believe it or not, you look like less a fool if you are out having fun on the dance floor than the guys who stand around the edge looking awkward and not having any fun.

Just get out there and listen to the beat of the song.. it's usually just a steady bassy thump for most of the types of songs they play at dances, and just start moving your body to that. You don't have to go crazy "busting moves" but rather you can just sort of side-step to the beat if you want to (like Will Smith in the movie Hitch) and just move your hands sometimes. Try to throw some inconspicuous glances around the dance floor to get a feel for what other guys are doing, and just copy things that you see other people doing until you find something fun and comfortable for you. Most guys have a pretty repetitive, low-key dance style and don't go as nuts as the girls so don't worry about looking like a pro from So You Think You Can Dance.

Just one last thing - this might sound really silly and stupid to you, but maybe you will find it useful. If you can try to figure out some of the songs they might be playing at the dance (modern radio-clubby songs), you could try putting some of that music on when you are alone and practicing in front of a mirror or something. I know it feels goofy but maybe that could help you get some practice in and not feel like as much of a dork when you hit the dance floor unrehearsed.

Anyways, good luck bro. Even if you don't get into now I am sure you will start dancing more as you get older. Once you get into it, you realize how much fun you have been missing! :)
