Will Banning Account Sales For Rsgp Help Get Rid Of Scammers?

Just want to know what the majority thinks. In my opinion, the number of legitimate account sellers that accept RSGP for accounts can be counted on one hand.

From what ive seen over the last week talking to account sellers selling MAINS for RSGP, most of them are scammers who are cleaned at duel arena looking for fast easy RSGP.

i think that implementing this would REDUCE the amount of scammers, as most of them are not open to exchanging IRL information that goes with a bank transfer, or WU.

Some of them are too young/ scared to even accept paypal.


How many times have you seen this?

What youre doing if you buy this account is to rent it for maybe a day or maybe a week. Because they WILL recover it.

These people are not even committed to scamming enough to sacrifice the loss of loyalty points from not being p2p. Its obvious they are still 'addicted' to runescape. 24/25 accounts that i have checked still have massive xp gains.

AT THE VERY LEAST. i strongly suggest prospective/foolish buyers to check XP gains on runetracker.

I know that my suggestion will not prevent scamming but i think that the amount of money lost on scams from account sales is enough to justify such a rule.

Just my opinion. Id like yours too! even if its only a yes/no vote.

 

This could be in the wrong place. There are easy ways to avoid being scammed. Things such as using an MM or OMM, only trading with VERY trusted people etc. Removing it would mean that people who are legit and make alot of money off of the section will then have no way of making money.

They should make it that only donators can sell accounts on sythe, would save us from 60% of the scammers?

Just don't trade with the people who look risky as simple as that. You don't have to get rid of it completely, but I like how you posted on that guys thread so that no one else will want to buy it.

 

Imo, It depends on the seller. A super-trusted user, Video, is selling accounts for RSGP and he's not a scammer. But, obviously you would not want to trade with a newcomer, or anyone trying to sell accounts for RSGP, who acts like that. For some people, RSGP is the only payment that they can accept. It would be totally unfair to ban users from using RSGP, because that could make some users not able to sell their products/accounts. Lastly, you can't just label someone as a scammer just because they use RSGP, that doesn't make any sense

^I agree with the above poster I recently sold two acccounts even though Im fairly new helped me gain vouches/trust on this site and got me some extra gold.

 

Banning any type of trade will decrease scammers.

Account sales shouldn't be banned. People know the risks associated with it and have the responsibility to do research and act accordingly when shopping for an account. There are trusted sellers you can buy from, people just need to stop believing they can get a maxed account for 50m or whatever.

 

Just buy accounts via Paypal, then if they recover the account, you can charge back. I understand why you're saying that RSGP should be banned, because you can't charge that back if things go wrong. But it's ultimately up to the buyer on what they want to do.

Yes, it would decrease the amount of scammers, however there are some people who are limited to purchasing things with RSGP only.

Honestly why ban them? lol just DON'T buy the account with RSGP and you'll be good, but I do feel the same way; I personally will never buy an account, unless it's someone very trusted.

 

tl;dr

Stopping sales of anything will decrease scammers, but will also decrease activity in the forum. If you've been burned in the past don't whine, learn to trade better. Protection of yourself falls upon your shoulders. If you get scammed because you trade a less than reputable person it is your fault. Taking out a large section of a market is a stupid idea.

 

Terrible suggestion. I've sold 3 accounts on here for rsgp. Rsgp is great to accept because you can accept it from ANYONE, unlike paypal. You can then take that gp and sell it to a trusty buyer

 

Maybe instead of banning account sales alltogether, limit it to people with at least 100 posts and been here a couple weeks or so.. Then they cant just make an account, scam, and leave.

I've sold/bought lots of accs with rsgp, BANNING IT WOULD ONLY PUNISH THE LEGIT BUYERS/SELLERS!

and if it gets banned (99% sure it won't happen lol) it'll only put pressure for people to break a rule (that rule) which will cause more trouble...

 

This wouldn't help at all. Sellers could also take WU or any other "safe" payment method and still scam. It is also a bigger load on mods to handle the idiots to can't follow rules.

 

Banning any section would reduce scammers. Scammers in the account section are easy to avoid though, if you just buy the account off a trusted seller.
