    Alienware?

Not experienced in making my own PC but I was looking to get a new laptop for about $2k or lower for gaming and all around use.Was thinking of getting a MX15 Alienware laptop, but are there any other laptops on the market that might be the same quality for a better price?

    Thanks,
    DrDre

Mx15 is stupidly bulky and quite old hardware wise. You could get similar gaming power from a lot of ultrabooks these days. Which are super small, light and stylish whilst not carrying the price premium of Alienware which apparently is 5-10 times the actual cost of the hardware itself.

    Alienware is owned by dell...

You've got 2k to spend? Don't get a Dell or any other cheap shit brand.. Get an Asus, look at the G74 series... (they have smaller ones if you don't like the 17.3inch size)
    g74sx - http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G74SX/#specifications

    Asus laptops - http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/

They're boss. I recommend them because I own one and it's the shit.. You'll probably have to buy from newegg or tigerdirect or something..

    Alienware?

My m14x and m17x rape too lawl, I just bought the g74 for ableton and it is awesome and cheaper than the Alienware, but if you have the money to spend...why not go alienware, at least its not like apple where you pay a lot for a poorly spec'd computer.

Why spend money you don't have to for the same specs..? In all honesty, Asus is probably much more solid and built better than alienware. Either way, if you MUST spend all the money, just get some extra HD's or upgrade the RAM..

    Alienware?

I have them both now, the g74sx (newegg) is solid, it was 1800 and 200 less than my m17x and the hard drive is 250gb larger than my alienware. Personally I like the look of the Alienware, all I am saying is that if he has the money and wants to spend it why not, I don't regret it. But as you said, the G74 is a really nice machine.

    Alienware?

IMO alienware is the biggest sales gimmic, for 2k you could build a beastly as computer and for around $900 you could buy a decent every day laptop with the most current chipset, 4+gb ram and 2Gb graphics.. what more do you need honestly.

Meh, he already said he did not want to build one. In my opinion after owning both, if you have the money to spend buy an Alienware laptop, yes is may be overpriced but it will not be a let down, it is the most powerful laptop I have ever used. If you are looking to save money but not cut back on noticable performance, purchace the G74.

This is only if you want to game with no problems, because for everyday use there are a TON of better options. I also would reccomend the m14x because the battery life is a lot longer than the 17x.

Bro, totally up to you if you have the money, if you like the looks of alienware go with it I'll put it like this.

With the Alienware the price you pay gets you a really strong system and one that is impressive to look (looks being the main selling point for them).

I know your not considering this but with apple, you get a poorly spec'd computer that costs just as much as an alienware.

This is what I mean by your money being worth it if you do decide to, your not spending a lot of money for a shitty computer..

Keep in mind though that there ARE cheaper computers that have similar if not the same specs but do not carry the Alienware logo. It is all up to what you want and feel comfortable spending your money on.

    Alienware?

You have no idea what you are talking about... Alienware operated independently from Dell until it was purchased in about 2006, and even then, dell still produced what they considered to be their high end gaming pc, even though it was in direct competition with Alienware. Later on Dell ended up cutting out their high end and using Alienware in replacement.

Once again, I stress that I OWN BOTH.... THERE IS NO DROP IN PERFORMANCE OR ABILITY.

If you have the money and enjoy the looks of Alienware buy it, your not going to be like OMFG this is horrible and a waste of money.

If you would like to save money but maintain the capability, purchase the G74.

Didn't read half the posts but if you're buying a laptop stay away from: Alienware, Dell (same company), Toshiba, and Sony. Recommend Asus/Acer high end models.
Macs are also a good choice.

Get a custom one, the MX15 Alienware is so big and it is quite old.
