I know people who work for the union that smoke weed, I know people who are master plumbers making $50+ an hour that smoke weed. This is by far one of the most ignorant posts I've ever seen on the topic. Where do I even start? You pass out from smoking too much marijuana because it LOWERS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR meaning that if you haven't eaten for a while or if you don't eat much you are more prone to passing out, It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH OXYGEN LOSS.

Secondly Marijuana is a Hallucinogen not a depressant. A depressant is Alcohol or Ketamine or Rohypnol.

I also find it QUITE HILARIOUS that you speak of short term side effects of marijuana use which all of are basically describing the high except for 2 which is the increase in heart rate (this occurs when smoking ANYTHING so that you get more oxygen, this can even occur if you breath in smoke from a fire) at all.

So I actually found the about.com page you looked at and I followed the medical literature sources in the article AND WOULDN'T YOU BE SURPRISED, All they speak of is the relation to lung cancer which is what occurs when smoking anything. Quite simply what this means is that anything you quoted that is related to heart rate and blood pressure is NOT medically proven and therefore is an invalid statement.

Whats also comical is saying you know someone who has permanent brain damage from marijuana. Marijuana has not been linked to brain damage, despite the government throwing money at research to biasedly prove so.

Its also a joke when you say that it rips families apart and causes you to do stupid things. This is absolutely ridiculous, Marijuana doesn't rip families apart, dysfunctional families rip themselves apart, you also don't do stupid things because of marijuana, you do stupid things because you are stupid. I would wager money on YOU doing something stupid rather than most of the people I know who use marijuana which is quite frankly A LOT.

I also find it hilarious that you think it should be illegal as a means of control when illegality doesn't stop ANYTHING and only end up ruining innocent peoples lives when the real criminals look to make money off of joe blow's marijuana habit and innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

SO! I go down the street and pick up the homegrown for beyond any deal

I think 16 is a little too low. The legal age should be at least 18, but either way that doesn't mean it's going to stop younger people from smoking. Also, why should there be an age limit of 50? Men and women way past 50 smoke cigarettes all the time.

 

I haven't seen a compelling argument for why it should be illegal, Health reasons are an extremely poor reason to keep anything illegal, considering that gases like Argon and ultraviolet light which occur naturally must then also be illegalized.

Family reasons are also a ridiculous reason because its quite frankly none of the governments business how dysfunctional your family is which is likely what lead to drug use ANYWAYS. Saying Marijuana or ANY drug tears families apart is stupid because most addicts are looking to escape their incomplete or destructive family life with drugs, and again is NONE of the governments business.

Keeping it illegal because of gangsters who sell it is also a stupid argument because gangsters are ONLY selling it because its illegal with a demand. If there was no demand or illegality they would disappear.

So what is a good reason for it to be illegal? The only reason its illegal is because of stupid racist traditions (for marijuana anyways), and the greed of the pharmaceutical companies.

 

The fact that we have Cannabinoid Receptors in our brain that naturally react with the plant when ingested is enough for me to think that we as a human race need this plant to Survive.

I'm a recreational user of it even though it is illegal in the state I live in. I don't have a problem with it being legal or illegal because either way I can get it. I do believe however that the government should spend a lot less money preventing the use of marijuana and spend it more on domestic issues that face many Americans.

I'm speaking in America only since it is my residence. The money could be better put towards homeless shelters or re-building housing for natural disaster victims. It could also be spent on new technologies that make the automobile industry cleaner and more fuel-efficient or even a way to process anything in more efficient manners.
