XBOX 720 could be portable?

Is it a coincidence that the Xbox 720 (not the confirmed name, but what we'll use for now) will have a 6670, which JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE the most powerful low-profile GPU on the consumer market? Are they trying to tell us that the Xbox 720 will be thin and light? Perhaps even as thin and light as a Macbook Air? Is it possible that the Xbox 720 is in fact a PORTABLE SYSTEM? Could it possibly be a laptop of some sort?

I'm talking laptop sized, PORTABLE, NOT HANDHELD.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if they branched off and made a handheld version as handheld is all the rage atm, however I'd say the main console wouldn't be handheld.

Theyre eventually going to make it where you can take games EVERYWHERE.

I don't see them going completely handheld when they've held a long lasting console only based audience. The fact the 6670 is low profile could just mean they're trying to going with a small design, not necessarily handheld.

Is it confirmed that the 720 is going to be using a 6670 though? I know whatever is in there now is only like the equivalent of like one of the old Radeon X1850 or something like that, so it's a huge upgrade either way, it still just seems so weak in comparison to current high end standards.

 

I don't think it should be handheld. No way. Handheld products like PSvita or PSP havn't been as big of a success as they were meant to be.

 

I think Microsoft will wait until the Wii U comes out to see what the general reaction is, to a 8th gen console. Then they will decide their plan.

But tbh, I think consoles are kind of dying due to developers not wanting to support things such as preowned games, which are a big reason why many people own consoles. Future games consoles will probably be portable devices though, with a projector or a holographic display. I think PC gaming will become popular again though.

 

I can't see the new Xbox being handheld. Why would it? If the new Xbox was handheld, Microsoft will be gifting the PS4 more sales IMO.

 

You guys missed the entire point, I meant PORTABLE, not handheld.. Portable as in laptop size that you can carry with you.

You're the only one here who even understood what I was saying.. I'm talking laptop size.. I mean, everybody I know has an xbox and it's pretty common for them to take them to friends houses and stuff. It makes sense to make it portable and considering the capabilities of current technology, it's not impossible anymore.

I believe it has been confirmed that they are using the 6670. It's a huge jump in performance compared to what they're currently using. For pc gaming, it's a piece of shit card, but considering the only use for it would be console gaming it won't be under nearly as much strain as it would be in a pc. Since it only serves one purpose, it wouldn't be hard for Microsoft to tweak the card to bring out the best possible performance since they already know what the card will need to do.

I'd say its possible, technology has evolved quite a lot since '05 however I don't think it would be a drastic size reduction.

 

This would actually be fantastic. Especially with low key chords that don't go all over the place like the 360 or even a rechargeable battery.

 

I don't know how plausible a rechargeable battery would be given the amount of power required for the necessary hardware, but it would be a nice idea.. Also, less bulky cords and shit would definitely be a plus.. I mean, a console as thin as a notebook would be boss.

 

You wouldn't want to be around certain places with an expensive Xbox is something I can see wrong.

 

I would really love to see this happen. I bring my xbox to a lot of places (vacation, friend's houses, etc) and a concept like this would make all of that sooo much easier. However I can't really see them going in that direction, by making it almost like a laptop they are kind of eliminating the market of people looking for something in the console area.

 

Definitively won't be a portable console, The WiiU will.

 

Would be stupid, PsP didn't do amazing compared to non handheld systems. Would be smart to just upgrade the 360 and not make it portable

 

And what makes you think Microsoft wouldn't do it if Nintendo is? Also, different concept.. I'm talking just small and easy to move around or transport.., not hand held..

Really? Have you ever tried to take an xbox anywhere? It's a damn hassle. If they made it the size of a notebook, it would be 10x easier. I'm not talking a handheld system, I'm talking a console the size of a notebook with NO SCREEN since you plug it into your TV just like an Xbox.

Not if they don't include a screen, which I don't think they will.. It would just be a small console the size of a laptop with much more power than a typical console. Maybe like an inch or two thick, <9 inches long and <11 inches wide sorta thing..

 

It would be an interesting idea, especially since some people seemed fond of that one guy who turned his 360 into a laptop shaped console. =o
