My upcoming build progress report! [XBOX+PC]

I should say this more but, thank you guys for all of the support, sorry it is taking so long, I PROMISE this will be done by the weekend. My home internet should be up today so I will update with pictures of the PC parts.

I like what you're doing. I'm just a bit confused on a couple things, but I'm sure I'll figure it out on the next pictures.

Do you have something like a KBM switch to quickly go between computer and Xbox or will you have to turn it off and back on again?

 

They are both ran separately, one can be off and the other can be on or they both can be on and plugged into different monitors.

 

Looks like another one of those talented people I've been seeing with these portable home consoles and console laptops. I've been wanting a portable gamecube type thing except I have no clue what the heck to do...lol.

I am mindblown by this, that looks really difficult to put together in my opinion. Congratz on finishing it, it looks good.

Thanks man, the pc part was really easy of course, even sleeving the cables was simple. The only problems I had were with the xbox. It is so sensitive to heat that removing the case gives too much area and the two fans are not effective. I bought two small fans and placed them over the top of the heat sinks so that it blows air directly onto the areas causing the heating and that stopped the almost immediate overheating. The other problem was the sizing, I had to limit my Power supply because going larger in wattage also ups the size of the unit. So when I ordered my first one it was too large and the xbox had no room by about 1/8 of an inch. I am really shocked glue...yes hot glue and super glue have held such a strong bond to the metal and not shown any signs of melting with long duration running.

 

Couple of things I would of done differently:
Big fan on the top of the case to suck in cool air, and little fans on the bottom sides to push out the hot air.
HDMI cords vs VGA monitor hookup and HD cables with a switch. Kind of like so, >-[ ]-<.
Relocated xbox fans to the heatsinks.

EDIT: Just read last post and you used super glue and hot glue in heat-producing electronics. Should of used high-temp epoxy for any bonding. Don't half do something.

 

Trust me there is no "half doing" I do take a good bit of offense to that after working on this for about a month.. I tested everything to make sure it would hold and work under the heat. Also, the superglue withstands heat at 275f and the hot glue (the small amount I used mainly to help mount the disk drive and drive slots) are 3m grade 140c or 285f softening temp.) I do not see a problem. Just consider it a new way to do something. I do have twin cooling fans over the heat sinks of the Xbox.

The image is slightly outdated. There is a slot cooler to push out a pocket of hot air under the gpu in the corner, and there is a 140mm fan at the top pushing air out. Smaller fans at the front pull air in and blow it over the xbox and then it is pulled out by the other fans out the back. It runs cool and I have had no problems.

 

Can you show what the back looks like when it's closed up and what cables you have coming out of it?

I'm just saying that super glue will gradually give away from the heat.
Think of like tug-of-war, one side always wins from the opposite side getting weaker. So just because the two sides came out even doesn't mean its a draw.

 

I am planning on building a pc into a desk, along with an Xbox and PS3. Ill have to cut the legs and build a 6 inch glass case around it. But it will be based around the colors black and white. I think people have done this before tbh, but when I finish this co-op and go back to school, there is going to be a limit of room and this should look awesome and help with clutter. Well, as long as someone buys this for anything over 2700.
