Is Desert Treasure worth it...

Absolutely. Desert treasure is needed for many other quests down the line, and the rewards you recieve from completing the quest are definitely worth it.

I would do it if I were you.

Anyway, I suggest you don't get it. Yes, I said don't do it. You don't need it for any pure quest, and barraging only costs a lot more money compared to polypore. If you want to freeze or hold someone, use a bolas or entangle. If you want good magic damage, use a polypore staff. Polypore is around 200 or less RSGP per hit.

The only real advantage you could get from this quest would be the robes. Nothing else.

Don't hop in the band wagon where everyone thinks it's a must have for a good pure. Just because pures have done it, doesn't mean it's necessarily good. Polypore and bolas has come out, entangle is used more often (Because you can TB). Why would you barrage to hold when there's better alternatives now?

100% Right. Unless you plan on barraging people in combat then just focus on your str/range.

 

ancients are worth it, unless if the account is banned. The time is then wasted, because it was like it never had happened

-Cheaper than Barrage casts.
-Seems more accurate over Barrage.

But,
It does not freeze your enemies, which can be practical for more than just multi-combat areas.

So it'd honestly depend on what you'd be maging up against is what you should ask yourself onto whether to go for Barrage or stay the Polypore route.

 

I've explained it in my post. If you want to hold someone, use bolas or entangle.

The only advantage for barraging is it can hit multiple targets. Nothing else.

Polypore > Barrage
Advantages of Polypore:
- Cost Effective
- Higher max hit
- Obviously higher DPS
- Saves inventory spaces

 

I don't feel it's necessary though to cast two separate spells for what one can do; and provide the same-as or greater damage of a spell that cannot do both.

Take into account barrage is like a polypore staff, but with the entangle cost pushed in.

What is it, 700 casts before a polypore degrades?

Even with the requirements to repair, it's still... somewhat.. costly.

So in the end the prices themselves even work out closely in correlation & you're left using a staff without the function to "Hold someone."

new polypore staffs actually have 3000 charges.
you should not do DT because as stated before, polypore staff is Significantly cheaper:

as for ice barrage, the current cost per cast is 2300 gp or so making polypore staff roughly 1600% cheaper per cast.
