    [Question] A Damm Fine Gaming Machine?

    I'm looking into building a new computer that will be used for gaming and recording video for my YouTube channel. I've priced out some parts for what I think would be a good build for me, and the parts should all be compatible.

    Here's the list of parts:
    Wishlist: http://www.canadacomputers.com/wishlist.php?item_id=027983

    Individual Parts:
    Case: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=027983
    HDD: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_1086_210_212&item_id=039034
    CPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_64&item_id=043085
    Motherboard: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_335&item_id=043981
    RAM: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=039987
    GPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=043690
    CD Drive: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=042957

    Comment on whether you think this build will:
    a) Play games with good graphics (BF3, MW3, Saints Row the Third, ETC)
    b) record them without lagging out

    If you think any parts should be swapped or the entire build scrapped and would like to recommend a new one, please keep the budget under $1000. Don't need keyboard, mouse or monitor in the build.

    Thanks!

    with a $1000 budget, you're better off with an i5 2500k build. You'll get a lot more power from that than the processor you selected. Also with the GPU, at least get the 560 ti, comeon.

    I've always liked Corsair RAM. You'll need to change motherboards if you go with a 2500k, perhaps a Biostar or Asus brand? HD is fine.. People always suggest the caviar blue because it's a bit cheaper, but out of the three main WD drives (blue, green, and black), the blue has the highest fail rate, followed by the green. Black is the top dog. I've had one for coming on 7 years under heavy use that still runs like a champ.. I also noticed you forgot to include a PSU.. I'd go with 650 watts, just cuz it's cheap and still provides room for some upgrading. Again, I like Corsair PSU's.

    Basically, a 2500k build, built around saving money for a bitchin GPU. (ie, 480 or 7850, depending on whether or not you want to shell out another $50 for a pretty large performance jump)

    Here's an updated list of parts:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    CPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_65&item_id=046128
    GPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=047462
    PSU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_441&item_id=028286
    MOBO: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_722&item_id=045407
    RAM: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_312_612&item_id=040889
    HDD: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_1086_210_212&item_id=039034
    CASE: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=047157
    CD Drive: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_1086_210_212&item_id=039034
    I took the same Hard drive, as I saw the Blue caviar were more expensive for less storage than the green. I agree with your choice of GPU, specced it out in comparison and looks DAMN fine. Is it worth picking up this SSD to use for a ramdrive (supposively it could help playing certain games and recording them).
    Thanks Again for the help and suggestions!
    Well, it would make your PC a bit more responsive when searching for files on the SSD and for reading/writing of files to the SSD.. Which can help slightly for gaming..
    In my honest opinion, SSD's aren't worth it because where you can get a $50 ssd for only a few fps boost in games, you can throw that $50 towards a better GPU or CPU and get well over a few FPS increase. It may help with the video recording (Actually saving the recorded video), but if you have enough RAM, I don't think it's really necessary..
    A few people will probably disagree with me though. It's your $50, do what you want with it.
