I busted out my old laptop from high school in hopes of fixing it up and selling it. (I paid 500 for it from a guy getting deployed and needed cash) Anyway, the problem I was and, am having now, is that it will not charge.

When I plug it into the the wall without connecting the laptop the light on the charger lets me know that it is working, as soon as I plug it into the laptop the light goes out almost like its shorting itself out.

I have taken it to two computer stores and the first one had no idea, the second store suggested that it might be the connector on the pc causing the problem. They are wanting to charge me close to $300 for a repair that "might" work.

Do you guys have any suggestions, I am at a loss of thought. Alienware power connectors are connected to the motherboard and you have to have a certain tool to replace them. I have tried to use aftermarket chargers to test but they did the exact same thing.

P.S. I would sale it to anyone as is with the drivers disk and bookbag if anyone is interested. Just contact me to discuss a price.

Well, maybe you could get the "special tool?" It's probably not that special anyway. Open up the laptop and see what you need.

Yeah, Im trying to figure out da fuck they were talking about. I dropped it off yesterday and they just called me. They were saying the jack is connected to the mobo in a weird way. I don't even believe they opened it tbh. Ill pick it up and check it out.

Do you think that could be the problem, first thing I thought was a faulty power brick.

Could be that too, I was under the impression you had tried other power cords. The power cords tend to be sort of expensive to replace... That would be my first suggestion though.

Sorry vague question, I was referring to how the CD jack is seated on the motherboard.

I figured it out, there is a short in my power board, thankfully its not the mobo. Part is only $95 too.
