A Graphics Suggestion

Let me preface this for any mods, globals, or admins that come across this. Yes, graphics vouches are on the DNS list but if you just read through this may change your mind.


The Problem to be Addressed: Currently there is a substantial market that is being alienated from the general market. That market is the GFX market, and why is it alienated? Because you cannot receive vouches for a good trade if one half is an artist creating you a piece of graphics.


Why Should it Change?

• The graphics market is just like any other market, it requires effort and time to produce a product/service.

• 
  The market is large and the Graphics Section has grown by leaps and bounds since the first of the year; I mean our mod is a global now. (Good job, Alt.)

You may argue:

• Graphics take no trust.

• People would go crazy and give away free graphics and build lots of vouches

But

• 
  Vouches are a representation of trust and though you may argue that it doesn't take any trust let me ask you this: Does making a custom script require trust? Isn't there a software section that is pretty much just that? What is the difference between requesting a script and paying afterwards and requesting a graphic and paying afterwards? While they serve different functions it is the same process. A customer places an order for a product that is supposed to achieve a certain goal, so the market for custom scripts works generally the same as the graphics market but they can receive a vouch when they get finished scripting while an artist cannot.

• Vouches are subjective and therefore it is up to the individual users to decide if a graphics vouch is of the quality to trust.

To Combat Crappy Graphics Vouches:

• To give people more insight on the vouch it should be made mandatory that the graphic bought is included in the vouch through a link that will not be removed. (IE: Something like a Piclion link, but not Imgur. As in a graphics host that doesn't delete the images after a couple weeks.) This would show the quality of work to make sure a person just isn't going into paint and drawing something up to get a vouch. Giving the viewer of the vouches a chance to decide if they are going to trust them or not

This is also open to editing, tweaking, morphing, and any other changes to get this implemented because I see this as a lapse.

I really hope this does not get closed, because even though something is on the DNS list doesn't mean it can't be revised into a plan that will actually be beneficial.

You have outlined some very valid points, and I agree with you completely. I don't think that vouches should be allowed for free gfx, but if someone is paying for them then there is no reason they shouldn't be allowed to vouch.

 

I suppose I will leave this open for a little while.

 

Haha I support this. Seeing as I'm putting more and more time into getting better with my graphics program.
I think that graphics are worthy to have a vouch and initinaly thought they did in the first place when I created my GFX thread. For me graphics take time to make and require a fair amount of effort just like skilling, gp farming, and lots of the other things people vouch for.
If it's a shitty graphic or the customer is unhappy with it, they just shouldn't vouch. Also, if it's free you shouldn't get a vouch for it either.

Again I give my full support for this rule to be changed, I think I've explained enough in the past.

 

I support, although it will have to be on a strict leash otherwise lots of crappy work will flood sythe and there will be an influx of bad vouches like last time.

I support this. There are people that have vouches for free services such as getting 30-50 cooking and things like "GREAT TRUSTWORTHY GUY! Got me 23-40 ranged FREE! A+++++ service!". And I've recently seen people just vouching because the person seems trustworthy for OMM apps. There has been a topic somewhere on Sythe about this, not 100% sure where.

Anyways, overall I've seen the quality of vouches decreasing to a point where people vouch because the user seems trustworthy. Some people at the GFX Market are making insane graphics and are earning more per order then a guy would do that's selling upgrades. There still is a trust factor when buying a signature so I do definately support this.

However, as you said in the first post, there must be some sort of Quality requirement - otherwise you will get vouches that are even more extreme than the current worst ones.

 

I'd quite like to see vouches allowed in that section, support.

Support. Even with free GFX, you still have to chose the person who will make the GFX. The free shops right now are not going to go away instantly and people will have the ability to chose between crappy shops and good ones, just like everywhere else.

 

Support, as long as it is only for paid graphics, tho.

 

Support for PAID graphics.

 

I think minimum trade value would be a good way to combat the crap-for-vouches trade which would otherwise spring up. A reasonable minimum value might be $3 or 5 or some other amount which is nontrivial but not too high for beginning artists to still receive vouches. I think that graphics trades, being trades, should definitely be able to be vouched for.

 

This is too logistically difficult to enforce and would have to change with the market, because prices go up and down all of the time.

 

Support for paid graphics.

People get paid 500k-1m for simple, 15 minute quests, and those are deemed vouchable. Like others have said, graphics take quite some time, sometimes even hours, and they prove, arguably, an equal amount of trust.
