[Tut] How to slice an image [Tut]

I feel there is a need for this, so I have made a tutorial on slicing images:

1. Create your image


2. Select the slice tool

The little menu pops up if you hold down the mouse button when clicking on the crop tool

3. Slice your image

Just drag across the parts you want to be sliced. In this case, I'm slicing the image down the middle

4. Save the image

Go to File > Save for Web and Devices. A box will pop up

5. Set the Save Settings to PNG-24

In the upper right of the box that pops up, make sure to set the value to PNG-24 for best quality and transparency support

6. Save the image

Press the save button, and chose a folder

7. The image is sliced

Inside the folder you saved the image, a new folder will appear. click it, and your slices will show up. You can now link the slices to make a linked sig or reduce webpage loading times

I think I remember being taught about this (unless it was for something similar to this except in a movie maker) but I simply forgot how.

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was wondering how people made different links in just one signature. It turns out that the signature is actually cut into different parts. Makes sense I guess. Good tutorial! Keep it up mate

Yeah just used this to make a new sig, question I have now is how on earth do I go about uploading it? Do I just upload each picture to a host then put them in my sig via the or do I have to use that html thing that also saved when I saved the images.

So confused :/

 

Can someone please explain why would I want to slice my image? Is it only for reducing webpage loading speed?

 

You can add hyperlinks to different parts of an image this way.

 

Pretty interesting. In Gimp, I have to crop each subdvision in separated layers, then crop the image to the first layer size, and save. Then undo the last action and do the same for each single subdivision I want. Photoshop really has some very useful tools.
