So im going for 99 herblore now, im not really worryed about what i have to buy upfront or how many i have to make but everything just seems so expencive, is there a better way of getting 99 than losing like 1.7k a potion...If anyone has any tips, ideas, or anything that could help, i would like you to post them :p

    Here's the thing I use mostly when I train herblore, it's a great piece of information which gives you a break down of the cost per exp;

    http://merchanting.geupdate.com/herblore.php

It's pretty comprehensive and should give you a better idea of which potions are best to do when taking money into consideration. Hope it helped.

I would also Reccomend getting the Scroll of Cleansing, as it saves herb supplies :)

Just do whatever is the fastest xp, and when you can start making extremes train by making those, it may seem more expensive but it's worth the faster xp gains plus you can always use the extremes or make them into overloads for even more xp and an epic potion.

Cleaning herbs actually makes you money, but the XP/hour is alot less than making potions.

Losing 1.7k a potion? It's like 4.5k per cheapest extreme. The only way to save real money is the bxpw. I'm doing 1.5k ovls to 99 in it which saves me 55m in Torstols and 1.5k of each extreme which all adds up.

This is the chart that I use to decide what potions to make every time I rebuy my supplies. It is updated daily with GE prices:

    http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculator:Herblore/Unfinished_potions

Note: The information on that page is assuming that you are making pots from (unf) potions and adding secondary ingredients. If you are doing it from scratch with herb, vial of water, secondary, there is a very similar page on RS Wiki linked from that first one.

Also, these are some potions I have made recently for cheap:

Serum 207's - Cheap to make, and they make 2x as fast as regular potions

Combat potions - Very cheap to make, about 84 xp per potion. Pots hardly resell but it doesn't matter because the cost of making them is so miniscule.

Energy potions - Just bought almost 40k of these recently. VERY slow, and only 67 xp per potion, but even cheaper than combat potions. These are the way to go if you are on a tight budget!

Spec Restore potion - For some odd reason, this potion is not included on that list of potions. These are alot more expensive (about 4.5k per potion, 23gp loss per xp) but it is TOTALLY worth it if you have some extra cash to throw around for Bonus XP Weekend! You are looking at 200xp per potion, which is 540xp per potion at the beginning of the 2.7x BXP multiplier.

I hope that helps man, good luck and happy herbin! :)

doing serum 207's costs more to get 99 than prayer potions do, me and my friend (hes at my house for the weekend) we checked almost all the pots that people make and as of right now, prayer potions are the best to do to 99.. from my level (54 or somethin) i lose 250m to 99....so im not sure if your facts are correct but we checked them last night and for 99 none of them were as cheep as prayer potions.

I was merely offering some of the cheapest routes to 99 prayer, not necessarily the cheapest. Also, I listed Serum's preferably for their speed, as they literally mix twice as fast as regular potions.

Keep in mind that the prices for the (unf) potions and the secondaries are constantly changing, and especially with bonus XP weekend approaching, herblore supplies have been drastically rising for weeks, so if you JUST checked prices last night then alot of things are going to be ridiculously priced at the moment with the demand for herb supplies very high. For example, a crushed birds nest for a saradomin brew is almost 12k, when before they were 8-9k each.

A problem with making prayer potions as well is that you will need lots of cash upfront to buy all the supplies, although you will make money back when you sell the potions back to the GE. With potions like Serum 207's and Energy Potions, you need very little cash to get started (ex. for 40M you can get yourself enough supplies for roughly 30-35k energy potions, which saves you from having to repeatedly sell to GE and buy back supplies, assuming you don't have hundreds of mil up front to spend).

EDIT: I just checked and prayer potions are a 19.52 gp loss per xp. I find that hard to believe those are cheaper than Serum 207's? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find the gp loss p/xp for adding tarromin to ash potions. I am sure it is quite cheap though. If you want to spend more time and add the ashes to the vials yourself, THEN add the herbs, apparantly the loss is less than 10 gp loss per xp.

ash pots (unf) sell for 999 gp in the grand exchange, and the tarromin is 95 gp each so thats like 1.1k loss per potion but you have to make like 200k of them for 99 from 15 i think. ending up costing more than prayer potions, not trying to argue at all trust me, im just trying to figure out what i need to do to 99 and what i should invest in for the 2 xp weekend because i have about 74m to invest in herblore atm.

Why don't you try energy potions?

Energy potions are another potion that you cannot really resell back to the GE, but the cost of a harralander potion (unf) and chocolate dust is still below 1k each I believe (it could possibly be more atm with BXP coming up, but when I bought all my supplies awhile ago it was more like 800-900gp per potion).

They are slow, but not too bad. You get 67xp per potion, and can make maybe 80-90k exp p/h, and they are very cheap to buy up front. With 70M, you should be able to buy supplies for about 80k of them, assuming that they cost about 900gp each. With bonus exp, you would also get quite a nice boost of exp making these, but I would highly recommend spending a little extra money to make an expensive potion, but one that yields very high exp.

Yeah unfortunately you picked a bad time to start training your herblore, unless you have lots of cash to spend on inflated potions/ingedients and want to get that bonus exp.

If you're not going to train herb over the bonus exp weekend, then I would maybe wait until immediately after the weekend of March 16th, as supplies and potion costs will have dramatically decreased and you will likely be able to buy 99 herblore for much cheaper than normally, and possibly even snag better potions that would normally be outside your budget.

Last bonus exp weekend, I snagged 70-95 prayer off the GE for 70M flat on the monday or tuesday follow the weekend, which is a pretty damn good price :)
