Need help with car choices - (SRT-4 vs EVO)

Soooo I've been thinking about buying an Evo which I've always wanted it truly is my dream car, 2003 electric blue. But I really like the SRT-4's not the normal stupid neons though. So the problem is, which to buy? I can get an SRT-4 for $6-7k or an EVO for 11-12k.... For the people who actually know things about these cars I'm interested in the reliability, and mod prices. IDGAF about; MPG, how people think the transfercase's suck, I really want facts, I've searched a lot about both. AWD is fucking AWESOME but which one am I going to have to stick more money into for broken things within the engine bay? And just generally what are your opinions? Please note - the evo would be an 03 or 04. And the srt-4 would be an 04 unless there was a 2003 with LSD swapped in.

SRT4 honestly is a turbo neon. The reliability is the same and they are just pieces of shit in general. I'd personally pass on it.
(Neons are known for TERRIBLE reliability)
EVO you really need to be careful when you are buying it especially a used one for 11-12k i'd watch out for any major mods people might have added als obviously take note of anything strange during the test drive. Usually the people who are selling them used have driven them very hard.
I mean if I were you i'd continue saving up because 11k for an evo usually they will have high mileage on them anyways and for that price most of the ones for sale are used and heavily modded.
Also, depending on how young you are keep insurance in mind because it is going to be very expensive.

In your price range an Acura Rsx Type-S might be a good choice.

I will start off by saying that the motor/tranny/suspension basically everything about the srt-4 is completely different from a neon, the only similar thing is the body. and even that is a bit different. The evo's range from 80k-100k miles with older people driving them and little to no mods. and I'm saying 11k because I can talk them down a bit I'm sure, I'm a pretty smooth talker when it comes to cars. The only reason it's at (11,500) is they need a fast sale to put down on a house otherwise he would NOT get rid of it. also it's yellow :( which lowers the price imo and shows that way throughout all evo's I've looked at. Also there are just small quirks with the exterior....but either way, I was asking which would you choose? I like boosted not n/a :p

    Lol i'd take the Evo.

I have known about 3 people with SRT-4's the interior falls apart and they just have had many problems with them.

You can look anywhere if you want reliability i'd trust the EVO more than I ever would an SRT-4

Thanks! sorry if I came off a bit mad or anything. It just seemed as though you steered slightly away from the questions. I haven't heard of too many problems with them, except for neglect issues and people thinking they're in fast in the furious in a stock car.... :\ (3rd gear grinds ect)

The Evo, you pay for what you get, but you better be banking once you get it, because the mods arent cheap, and once you mod a car, maintance and upkeep for the car is a bitch ($$$), so if you're trying to take the cheap way out, I'd say an SRT-4, won't be nearly as fast as the 03' Evo (Unless highly modded/after market turbo/camd/supercharged/50/100 shot +, etc.), but it's cheaper.
But an 03' Evo is classic and pretty luxurious, in my opinion.

In my opinion the EVO is a much cleaner looking car and they hold their value better.

I'm planning on upgrading to one myself after I finish tech. school.

And also to the above, either car he is choosing to buy it is going to cost a lot of money for maitenence and upkeep.
Boosted cars in general are a lot more work and money to maintain.

I will for sure! I'm leaning towards evo... AWD traction will be much better around here... especially since the majority of races I'd do if I were to do them (RARE) haven't ever raced any of my camaros/trans ams would be from a dead stop.

Get the EVO, but be prepared to put a LOT of money into it. Not so much for maintenance, but modding and general work. My neighbor has an EVO and it's definitely worth the money.

As far as maintenance, you may have to worry about the traction system as the pump for it can fail, and even the turbo if you push it too hard. If it's the stock turbo definitely don't mess with it too much.

*EDIT* He bought the thing for about 15k, and then put another 15k worth of work into it. Definitely a great car though.

I'd go with the evo due to its more publicly known/i prefer the look.
