Gambling in RS leads to Gambling IRL?

Meh, when dicing was around i used to gamble a lot until i was cleaned which then soon left to gambling at school. The game was called "moneys up".. throw a coin against the wall whoever got closest flicks the coins first and calls heads or tails whichever lands on what they call we kept and rolled onto the next player and so on :/

 

Exactly. It could all start in something as suttle as this, then turn into something bigger, potentially.

Gambling on rs+irl ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERERNT, i dice and stake and gambling irl has never went through my mind EVER.

I guess at the end of the day it really depends on whether or not you place a real life monetary value against RSGP. I do, so therefore I'd say that staking Runescape gold is pretty much the same as betting or placing money on a game of roulette. So for me if I lost 100M staking, it would be just like loosing $70. Although many people play Runescape and just see GP as pixels and therefore would just argue it's part of the game and in no way relates to real life staking I guess.

At the end of the day, there is no definitive answer, it totally depends upon a person's perspective.

 

There are a lot of people that get addicted to dicing. Had a big falling out of members in my clan due to uncontrollable dicing habits --> scamming gp to dice with it, etc.

Even hosts would spend all their money dicing which is ridiculous. If you're a host, you know you make money because other people lose it, why would you just dice it back away?

 

Well gambling in RS is like gambling in real life when you loose GP you loose $.

And, if you already have an addictive personality, the game isn't leading you to gamble: you are going to eventually become a gambler anyways, unless you control yourself.

In my opinion, a link between games and gambling is just because of that addictive personality. I use my wife's cousin as an example.

When he was a pre-teen/teen, he loved playing games. He would play, play, play. When he got into High School, he slowly started skipping school to go to arcades, etc. to play games. He would forge parent notes for the school so he wouldn't get found out.

When he became old enough to gamble, he switched to pokie machines and other forms of gambling.

He became so in debt that, at his lowest point, he owed loan sharks $200,000.

He never sought any help for his addiction, and because of that he was stabbed and killed by loan sharks wanting their $200k.

 

Just wanted to point these two posts out as incorrect. RSGP has no intrinsic value, we only value it because we are part of a place where there is a market for it. Do you remember back before sythe when you played RS? You got 1m you didn't think 'Oh! This is worth 70 cents.' Again RSGP only has value because we give it value.

People who are addictive and can't separate reality from virtual reality could transfer their gambling addiction to real life, but I don't see it for most reasonably sound minded people.

I think there are many similarities between the two... And many of the gamblers on RS will eventually convert to pretty much a form of IRL gambling by buying their gold, and then proceed to stake it.

To me, this is riskier and safer... By staking on the game after getting cleaned you would have to go through the process of buying gold back which will take a longer time to realise you should stop, however there are many glitchs that will almost assure a lose of your money as an unfair way of doing it.

Now, for IRL gambling you could set limits and bring a specific amount of money, not always working, and if you win you WILL be paid by casinos, with a much less chance to be cheated.

This is all my personal opinion and I do understand people will have different stand points than myself.

 

Lesson learned out of this is not to gamble.

 

Yes. Unfortunately there are always those in society who would be very capable transferring gambling into real life. I'm not implying Runescape based gambling will be a major thing, this topic just randomly popped into my head. Thought it would be a decent discussion point though.

 

Yes it is a problem especially for the 13-16 year old players. Fagex was also concerned and thats why they are removing everthing to do with gambling. I hard they are making a new rule against gambling.

 

If you are seriously addicted and say you lose all your money from gambling on rs and buy more money to gamble with (with IRL money) you have a problem.

 

The thing is staking if the other player is the proper level is a 50-50 chance.

You can't really compare it to gambling IRL because the odds are way different and are made to be AGAINST you, not 50-50 more like 10-90 haha.

 

No, I see Runescape gambling as invest.
I can invest a few bills to make another few bills because I know that if I do it smart, and use all my skills I can do it.

 

Over the last few months iv'e staked billions and not once has going to a casino or blowing all money on other forms of gambling outside of runescape crossed my mind. I guess its because you know if you lose your pixels, you know that you can make them back by doing things that provide a steady cash flow if you go cleaned.
