Avatar help

My avatar has a blue(ish) border around it that is slightly annoying to me.
I originally tried having the avatar as a .png with the background transparent but it made it white, I don't know why. To fix this I made the background the same colour as its background and then I was presented with the weird blue border.

Help?

What size was the original with the transparent background? If you try to upload anything larger than 80x80 (non donators) then it will auto resize and make a white background. Check your dimensions
