The nicotine isn't really what's so addictive about it, it's more of a habit and a social addiction.

I used to smoke but now I've quit, I smoke sometimes when I'm on the run, but that doesn't count really.

And Swan, speed isn't that harmful if it's pure and done right.
The mental problems usually come from staying awake for too long, I've seen people totally flip out for going two weeks without sleep. If it's impure and abused heavily it'll kill you though. :) The coin has two sides you know?

    My favourite as well <3.

So basically you don't have the balls to grow so you smoke a hookah to look cool?

I have my AA in Developmental Psychology... I do have some background. By the way, nicotine is mind altering, so is caffeine. Whether you feel the addiction doesn't matter. No one said anything about physical, and don't go throwing out definitions of "true physical addictions" when you obviously are talking out your ass. Also, don't assume people lives, and if they have ever dealt with addiction. Addiction is nicotine is minor to most peoples addictions. EVERYONE has addictions, whether it be sex, food, smoking, have at the. Basic brain development, when the corpus callosum forms around age 7, out personalities and brain go farther then reward and punishment, and we start to form addictions. This isn't Freudian bullshit, psychiatry, this is science backed with physical evidence. Don't go talking out your ass.

@Phsy. I agree on the speed part, although you should say Methamphetamine, as there is TONS of different drugs referred to as speed, a lot of it is pharmaceutical . But nicotine is addictive, I've learned to much about what's in it and the dopamine it creates to say it's not.

Wrote_Murder what you really don't understand is that one can smoke cigarrettes and still be fine with it, without having an addiction.

How is there tons of drugs to be referred as speed, for my understanding they're all amphetamines and I believe all of it is pharmaceutical. I don't really know what shit there is on the streets though, as I only use pure chemicals.

I apologise for the comment, the only smokers i know are ones that have tried to quit and failed numerous times. So yeah, shouldn't have directed my opinion at you.

Phsy, I do understand that. I am one of them. BUT, if you smoke for a long period of time, and you don't know why other then you like cigarettes, you're addicted, or possibly have down syndrome. There isn't a logical explanation, people smoke for the stress release caused by nicotine. Which is why people trying to quit go on nicotine gum/patches.

Some different types of speed are, Crystal Meth, Crack Cocaine, and Cocaine. Some prescription speed like drugs are, Aderol, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Preludin.

    All are amphetamines.

I've smoked for years, but I have cut down a lot, down to one smoke a week and I still don't feel I'm addicted. I don't need to smoke, and I can be without smokes at all if I wanted to. It's a drug, a stimulant, like anything else and can be used correctly.

About time you have a somewhat intelligent response. I'm not talking out of my ass unlike you were before. I'm talking from experience. Saying smoking increases your risk of cancer by 650% for example is moronic. You can't possibly know that considering all the factors, the biggest one being how much someone smokes. And what I really meant is that it's not mind altering enough to keep someone from thinking rationally, like not being able to see that you're addicted. I've struggled with drugs, particularly opiates for years now and even I've always been able to admit that I have a problem. Admitting you're addicted isn't the hard part. Knowing you have to quit and finding the motivation to do it is. Also I assumed you haven't had experience with nicotine addiction because you said you don't smoke in your first post and I wasn't just referring to you.

My definition of physical addiction isn't wrong. Being physically addicted means your body becomes dependent on a certain substance and keeps you from being able to function without it.

I still don't think you understand that anything can be used in moderation and you won't become addicted. It doesn't matter how long you've been doing it or why you do it. There are a lot of reasons why people smoke, not just because of the stress release. A big part of it is psychological, which is why gum and patches often don't work for heavy smokers.

I personally hate cigarettes, they are just so nasty to me. Cigars are where it is at.

I'd have to agree with your post. Heres an interesting article that relates to your claim.

When coke addicts try to quit they go to NA (and try and quit). Kids who want to smoke pot hang out with other kids who dont want to smoke pot (and don't smoke pot). Homeless drunks hang out with homeless drunks (and get drunk). Your addictions/cravings can vary depending on your surroundings.

I don't smoke cigarettes. I really don't see anything positive about them, so have no urge to try them even though all my friends smoke.

I'm not hating on smoking though, I do smoke Black & Milds occasionally and I smoke weed as well.

I agree with the people saying its a social addiction and a habit.

When I have some time to kill and don't know what to do, I'll have a cigarette. Same for when I'm waiting on the bus, etc.

I've tried quitting before, but haven't succeeded, for the simple reason that I don't really care. It's also hard to replace those moments where you smoke a cigarette out of habit with something else. (What else do I have to do while I'm waiting for the bus for example?)

I'm sure most smokers will agree with me when I say: "dont ever start"
