Is Drake ACTUALLY A Good Rapper?

So you obviously think popularity automatically means someone is talented. I don't think there is even one station that plays any good old school or underground Hip-Hop artists. That must mean they're shitty because they can't make it on the radio right? I can't take anything you say seriously considering you're a Lil B fan.

Idk about everywhere else, but even in my city all you have to do it have a recorded track with your own beat, and you can get play.

95% of radio stations are going to play club style music.. Shake your ass, throwing money, all of that bullshit.

Listen to your local hip hop station, and then if you have access to SiriusXM tune into Shade45. Just look at the difference.

Shade45 still sucks man.

I've listened to a fair amount of Shade45, and shits weak. They had a whole segment talking about drinking donkey semen for 50k cash.



If you want to find good hip hop, don't go on the radio. Simple as that.

Drake is one of the best rappers, ever. His beats are different to everyone else's and that really makes a difference. He has an amazing flow. What's not to like about him? I'm tired of people saying Tupac this, Biggie that.. Yes, they were good, but it's time to move on..

 

I agree that too many people obsess over Pac and Biggie, but Drake is definitely not even close to one of the best. How can you even say that? It's fine if you like him and all, but he still isn't that good of a rapper. There are tons of great rappers out there, but you're not going to hear any of them on the radio. You just have to look for them. It's not hard.

 

I listen to loads of rappers, old school and contemporary. I still dislike drake. His beats are good but nothing spectacular. His flow is decent but played out. His lyrics are cliche and repetitive. He's decent, but I don't think drake is particularly talented. He has good producers/stylists/PR people. He's a goddamn actor.

Drake simply doesn't have substance. He's a bitch. He whines about friendship/insecurities/money/girls on the phone. He stepped at common and got fucked up.






I listen to current/active rappers. I like mos def/murs/wu-tang/mf doom/atmosphere/nas/blue scholars/cyne/tayyib

 

I like him a lot. Sure, maybe his lyrics aren't the best, but his rapping ability, in my opinion, is better than most.

Can't argue you there, it's not the ideal source, I just threw that in there in comparison to mainstream play vs underground.

 

Yeahh I gothchu. I'd say shade 45 is decent but it isn't spectacular. At least it isn't flooded with YMCMB bullshit.

are you kidding? you actually think hes good? have you heard his pathetic lyrics? have you heard how bad he is live? and i hope you are joking when you say he has an amazing flow hahahahhahahahha. Is he the only rapper you have heard or something?

 

You first have to understand for every artist their albums are labelly structured. Most of the time and i'm convinced even when artists themselves say so they never truly have 100% Creative control, not even 50%.

That's why I judge artists off mix-tapes rather than albums.

Drake does what he does good. I'm glad he's moved on into his direction instead of his "Thank Me Later" days where he himself even admitted it was mainstream approached and he didn't have many options.

It's not hard for Drake to go back to Thank Me Later type song's either.

He doesn't really push to imprint a show of skills, he usually details some type of story or experience, overall you all know there's been songs you couldn't shake off from him.

 

Although I agree with you first part, I don't think Drake fits that case, being as he is with Wayne's label or the most part, and they're going to offer independence. Drake is catchy, but not good. 95% of his lyrics are trash, and all of his songs sound the same.

This dude gets the same amount of respect from me as Nick Cannon. You can't be on Nickelodeon and then be a rapper. You get no love.

 

I understand Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne but how do you not consider 50 cent as a rapper ?!

OT: Drake is perfect as a mainstream artist but as the others said I don't really see he's fit to be a rapper. As others have said he is mono-toned and he doesn't seem to mix up his style. All songs of his basically sound the same to me.
