Which operating system do you prefer?

Firstly, this isn't a "which operating system is better" thread. Every operating system has their pros and cons, and everyone has their own preferences.
Post what operating system(s) you use and why you use them.

On my main desktop I use Ubuntu 11.10. I like Ubuntu because it runs a lot smoother with less powerful hardware. This desktop has a mere 2GB of RAM and I have absolutely no problem running Ubuntu with multiple programs running simultaneously. I haven't had any hardware issues at all since I've upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10. When I had Ubuntu 10.04 LTS I was always having troubles with my sound card driver not working, and had a couple problems with my mouse clicks not being recognized from time to time.

On my laptop I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I use my laptop for graphic design and web design because Photoshop and Dreamweaver both work much better on Windows. I chose Windows 7 over XP because file and folder sharing works much smoother with Win7 than XP (at least from my experiences.)

So, what Operating System(s) do you guys use and why do you use them rather than any of the others?

 

Ubuntu / Windows 7

Big fan of both, never got into Mac OS.

 

FreeBSD. I'm learning.

Fedora and Arch for class, since it's a Linux class.

Windows for when I don't have time to fuck around, only because I am most fluent in it.

I've used a ton of operating systems though, even old ones. But using them as an every day operating system just isn't practical.

 

Centos for all my servers, os x at work/school, windows at home.

 

Used to use Windows XP, but I eventually moved onto 7. I have used Ubuntu here and there and I've found it very useful. But I've mainly used Windows over my life.

 

i like windows over apple just because i grew up with it and know it very well now. i hear that apple is supposed to be simpler but I have no clue and dont really want to learn but next time i get a laptop (prob college ina year or w) I might get a macbook pro or somthing since They are really good and i love apples warranty its almost as good as best buy where u can say anything about the product and they give u a new one.

 

Windows. I'm currently out of the coding scene, and everything I could possibly need to do or would want to do is perfect. Windows 7 is probably the best OS on the market at the moment. I do really like Linux and its open-source ideology however, and how it really does do some cool things. My older notebook which isn't quite beefy enough to run a Windows OS well runs on Ubuntu, and I must say, it's quite impressive for an open-source project.

 

Windows XP. Never really liked other OS like CentOS or Ubuntu. Never really liked Windows 7 either.

 

Fuck XP - I love it.

But I love Windows 7/Linux

Also, Mac is aight, but I prefer the above.

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit also.
Like the features of it.. little bit easier to multi-task although I've never heard of ubuntu, or how ever you spell it
Windows 8 is going to suck terribly

 

I only used Ubuntu, w XP and w7. I liked them all.

 

I use Windows 7. Never really got into the whole operating system thing. Vista sucks some massive cock, but that's about the extent of my caring and knowledge... >_>

 

I used to have a laptop running Windows Vista. Worst experience of my life.

Now, I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.8). It runs smoothly with 6-8 applications open, and I like it's features. I prefer OS X to Windows.

I've always thought about switching to Mac, but.. it's just one of those things. But I agree with you on Vista, they shouldn't of even released it or been able to sell it.. >_<

 

I'm pretty sure I've been with Windows my whole time of OS's. Vista was a little bleh, but so far Windows 7 hasn't failed me. Isn't 8 coming out this year?

 

I use windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, because I think I get the most performance from it.

 

I prefer Mac OS.

I've used it for about 5 years now and I can't really switch back.

 

I prefer Windows XP having used it for so long but mac has the best OS in terms of stableness ect

 

Ubuntu, however I do still like Windows.
