    C RAM channel not working

Hey everybody , today i encountered a problem with my ram memory. After placing my ram memory sticks in different ram slots I've come to the conclusion that the C Ram slot channel isn't working anymore.

I have completely no idea why this happened. My ram sticks(12GB 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance (3x 4GB)) were placed in the B1/C2/C1 slots for about 3 weeks and I didn't have any problems at all. Today the C channel dont seem to work anymore. Whenever I place a ram stick in the C channel my computer won't boot properly and it will bring me to the BIOS screen & tell me my computer has failed to boot correctly etc.
Pics; First screen I get after booting with the ram sticks in B1/C2/C1.

Now I've placed the ram sticks in B2/B1/C2

As you can see it won't recognize the ram i placed in the C slot.

I hope someone knows what the problem is, why the C channel doesnt work anymore and how I can make it work again. I've tried to get help on a computer forum without any result. I hope someone here knows more about it :/.

    Thanks in advance, Frankzz

    Well....,

First things first, try resetting and updating the bios.
Did you OC the ram before?

Is your mobo under warranty still? You may end up replacing it.

    C RAM channel not working

Bios was update to v2.90 about a month ago.

The default ram was set to 533Mhz, so it fitted my first set of ram sticks well. Kingston 3x 2GB 1066Mhz. 3 weeks ago I bought the 1600Mhz 3x 4GB sticks from corsair and i changed the ram frequency to 800Mhz so they would run on 1600. I didn't have any problems with it.

Yea i think the Mobo is still under warranty, it would really suck if I had to replace it :(

Yesterday everything worked great, i simply don't understand why/how this can happen all of a sudden.

Does the warranty still count if you OC?

By any chance, since you changed the frequency to 800, did you put your machine under a lot of stress? Maybe use a lot more ram than usual, that kind of thing. I usually run Prime95 after OC'ing anything just to check for stability, did you do that?

Some issues with finding a stable OC for something don't come up until it's been running a while or certain circumstances have been met. (if you get what I'm saying..)

I also assume you ran memtest and made sure it's not one of the sticks, correct?

I'd try knocking the frequency back to the default too, just to make sure that's not the issue either.

If it ends up being a bad slot, the only thing you can really do is RMA it.

Well the only thing i ever changed to the bios settings was the ram frequency, I've never tried to OC my processor or anything else.

Hmm I did use a lot of "Ram-eating" programs lately. But I always stayed at the 60% usage mark.

I've seen people talk about RMA before, could you tell me in short, what it means/what it will do?

Edit: I haven't done a ram test yet, nope, I'll have to do that tomorrow

Return Merchandise Authorization. You call and tell them about your deal and they tell you to send it back and you get another one.

    C RAM channel not working

Is it possible that the new ramsticks i bought are 'overloading' the ram slots or something of that kind?

    Old sticks: 3x 2GB-1066Mhz 7-7-7 Kingston ValueRAM
These were placed in slot A1/B1/C1 for about a year.
    Replaced the old sticks by;
    New sticks: 3x 4GB-1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 Corsair Vengeance
Placed in: B1/C2/C1 about 3 weeks ago.

    Motherboard: ASRock X58 Extreme

The C channel has completely stopped working since yesterday

I just found out that A2 isn't working anymore either. A2 is a slot I've never used in the past so :/.

Well yeah, that's what I was getting at above with the stability and stuff. Perhaps you just put it under a bit more stress than it could handle on the higher frequency. Try clocking it back down to whatever the default was to see if they start working again, it's unlikely but would be great if it happens.

If that doesn't work, I don't see any other options..

    C RAM channel not working

I've put the default back to 533Mhz earlier today, the only thing that changed is that I lost... another slot. I'm going to read through the MoBo's manual to see if theres anything I can do, if not than I'll have to send it back.

The higher frequency shouldn't have been a problem for my motherboard, on the site where I bought my computer, in the details of the motherboard it says: by overclocking memory speeds of 1333Mhz, 1600Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2000Mhz can be achieved.

Thanks for your help btw, appreciate it x.x

Just because it's supposed to support it doesn't mean it couldn't be faulty hardware.

And no problem, I hope you get it sorted out

ok for some reason A2 and B2 are working again.

I have now placed all 6 memory sticks in all the slots.

    Corsair 3x 4GB are in A1 B1 C1
    Kingston valueram 3x 2GB are in A2 B2 and C2

    It's only recognizing the ones in A & B.

This saturday I'm going back to the store where i bought it to RMA it.

For now I'd like to keep using 12GB. Should I take out the sticks I placed in C1 & C2? Or can I just leave those in? and would it do any more damage if i left them in?
