I don't agree with you guys. This is just wrong.

He has publicly embarrassed her to a point farther than anyone should ever need to handle. She will never live this down.

Also, responding to this type of behavior by shooting and destroying an expensive laptop is completely fucking retarded.

I'm with fishy. This is a bad parenting decision. Punishment should be confined to the family, not shown to everyone. I love how he complains about spending 130 dollars on her laptop, and then shoots the damn thing.

    What an idiot.

Uh, how's it wrong? The girl clearly has NO respect for her parents, even after all the things they have done for her. The girl has made an extremely vulgar post about how "unfair" her life is, because she doesn't get paid for her chores, she works too hard, etc. She even went far enough to block her parents from viewing the post, wouldn't you think that would be a bit embarrassing for them, as well? It's stated in the video that the parents have WARNED their daughter before, but she did it anyway thinking she could get away with it, that's just a blatant disrespect for her parents. I like how she also says that they have a cleaning lady, and it isn't her job to clean the house... seriously? The dad says that she barely works, and she criticizes someone who works hard. By the way, do you think everyone will remember this their whole lifes? After a few months, it's going to die down, and the girl is going to learn a lesson. It's even stated in the video description, the father isn't looking to make her life a "living hell," but that's a great way to make her learn her lesson.

Where does it state that punishment has to be restricted to family? He isn't complaining... he's telling her if she wants a laptop, she can work herself to buy it, and to pay back the $130 he spent upgrading it for her. He's not an idiot.

I just think it was handled the wrong way. I agree with you that the girl is completely in the wrong here, but I feel like it was kind of taken to an extreme. I guess if it works, it works, but I know that he didn't have to post a video for millions of people (probably including most of her peers) to watch to get the point across.

She's a teenager, teenagers usually complain about their parents, it's what they do. More than likely he probably felt the same way about his parents when he was her age at some point, most people do.

If it get's the point across, I'm not seeing the problem? Well, she degraded her parents in front of her peers, why can't the parents do the same? It's tough love, and a taste of her own medicine. Sure, every teenage complains, but it's what you're complaining about. If he complained about not going to a party, whatever. But, she's complaining because she doesn't get paid for chores, it's too hard, and she doesn't need to "pick up their shit."

Lesson learned. Plus, he is the parent, he can do what he wants. Nonetheless, if the kid was raised right, this whole situation would never have had to happen, so really, everyone loses.

Very funny, but this isn't the sort of thing a parent should do, simply telling her this/grounding her would have been enough. He didn't have to go out of his way to make this video and publicly embarrass her :s

Why is this not the "sort of thing a parent should do?"
Simply telling her and grounding her in the past DID NOT WORK, she did it again. Why is a little embarassment even a bad thing? Isn't that what she did to her parents? Next time she is sure as hell going to watch what she posts.

    Hilarious...
TBH he didn't completely ruin her life becasue if she is even remotely popular she will be pitied more than she will be hated for this.

Shit dude I was just headed over to Sythe to post this myself :(

I read this in the Globe and Mail blog yesterday and my phone and made a mental note to watch it. Then this morning it popped up on my mini feed and I sat through the whole thing with my jaw hanging open.

There are varied opinions with a public stunt like this, and I am so surprised that I am saying this (my opinion would surely have been different years ago), but I think that snot-nosed, ignorant little pre-teen deserved some lead being pumped into her laptop! Maybe that will teach her some respect.

... I do feel pretty horrible for that girl at school now. She must be completely humiliated

I lol'd. I was looking for the girls response but couldn't find it. Can anyone link me to it?

In her defense, she is in the wrong, but a computer nowadays is needed to type up work, etc. He ought to give her a shitty desktop with just the essentials so she can't give him a tantrum about how she can't do hw, etc.
