Is Drake ACTUALLY A Good Rapper?

I think his lyrics are so-so compared to others, and he is too focused on making songs that the Top 40 Radio Stations endorse and play.

How do you feel?

 

I don't think he is. He really annoys me to be honest, especially his voice. I don't understand how anyone would want to listen to him anyways when there are so many other good rappers out there.

 

Not really. I wouldn't even really consider him as a rapper, more of just an artist. While his flow isn't too terrible, his lyrics are usually basic as fuck. His rapping is merely just a filler before some catchy chorus comes in.

Personally I believe his older stuff was a lot better. So Far Gone was pretty dope mixtape and Thank Me Later was a decent album, one that's a helluva lot better than Take Care.

No, he's got a buzz, he's got a good flow... But at the end of the day who is he? Just any other rapper out there making lame love songs and mediocre lyrics. I mean, he's dropped some good verses, and I don't HATE him, but he hardly has space on my computer for music.

I agree about the filler part. Never heard his older stuff as i havent really given it a thought, will do now.

The problem is that he is so erratic with his songs. In some songs he has overall good, yet not outstanding lyrics and flow. On the other hand, the "popular" songs are basically "I get ladies and im cool" in 50 different forms with awkward pauses.

 

I like 1 or 2 of his songs, the rest I think are crap. His voice pisses me off.

Drake is an actor. On this fact, he gets no musical credit from me. He's monotone, has very slight lyrical content, and it's always the same thing in every song. It seems to be in this day of time, the easies route to go in rap is to make what I call "Bubble gum" songs. You make songs that are going to appeal to girls, kids, and guys who want to be cool.

My explaination of this does make me sound like a douche bag, but you have to stop and think about it, you don't get credit when you take the easy way out.

 

Agreed. While he has an alright flow, he just has no substance, just like the rest of young money... I don't like rap songs that are bragging how much money you have or how many girls or cars or whatever... I like songs with meaning, and drake doesn't have that, so he has no place on my itunes. I also hate that he acts so hard, but he's not...

 

You can't call him a rapper, just like Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, the list goes on and on.

 

Why don't you consider Lil Wayne & 50 Cent rappers?

 

He used to be good back on his old stuff. i mean he was good enough to ghost write for wayne before wayne blew up so who knows

 

Because all rap is these days is pop rap about fucking girls, getting money, and doing drugs. its all the same and its dumb. you want real rap? Biggie, nas, 2pac, aesop rock. thats all REAL rap, not this shit thats around today
