Banksy - The Best artist of our time.

If you dont know who Banksy is, he is a British artist, would graffiti's all over citys all over the world often very controversial art work.



Nobody knows his true identity, how old he is, are pretty much anything about him, he works with some very close people, given prints, items, books, and giving away his artwork for nothing claiming no fame or wanting any attention for his work.



He fights against, war, and bad policy's in government, and his art work is selling for £100,000's or more, people buying the buildings and anything to do with him.

In August/September 2006, Banksy replaced up to 500 copies of Paris Hilton's debut CD, Paris, in 48 different UK record stores with his own cover art and remixes by Danger Mouse. Music tracks were given titles such as "Why Am I Famous?", "What Have I Done?" and "What Am I For?". Several copies of the CD were purchased by the public before stores were able to remove them, some going on to be sold for as much as £750 on online auction websites such as eBay. The cover art depicted Paris Hilton digitally altered to appear topless - Wiki Quote



He doesnt sell any artwork or claims any fame for his work.

12-25... Did you just read the title and posted not even reading about him or any comment or anything to say about him.

 

I know about Banksy. I have Art qualifications, and do an Art based (I suppose) degree course. (if that helps change your judgement)

I'd disagree with your statement of him being 'The best artist of our time', he's good, and makes some bold political statements, however beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We're all different.

 

He is very cool stays down kinda person.

 

art nowaday isnt based on your skill, its the statement and how your art effects people in modern day society.

Sorry but 'The best artist' is completely subjective, as there are various styles, methods, tastes etc.

 

Your missing the point, everyone has opinions, you have yet to show one against any my statments or provide me with a better answer

 

I fail to see a point. You've made a thread stating facts and information about Banksy. I can see you hold him high. I could reply to 'who else compares to him?' with my favourite artists e.g Chuck Close, but my reply would be completely subjective, but they are different artists that work with different mediums and create different things. In terms of different graffiti artists, I've got no idea. You're better off asking a graffiti forum.

 

hes not really in "our time" or even close to being as influential as banksy

 

I really like his "Please feel free to/do not" list. It's refreshing to see artists with ideals like those these days.

 

very influential figure, i didn't know anything about his stuff until i saw a movie about him 'exit through the gift shop' or something like that. Banksy is the only name of a modern day (still alive lol) artist a know of.

 

While he is good, I think they're many equal or better artists - just in the graffiti community. Shepard Fairey would be one, and Psalms, and a couple of others.


Edit: An average generation is around 23 years, just thought I would throw that up there.

Edit: After purveying some of Chuck Close's work I have to say Banksy is better, in my opinion. Close really hasn't brought anything interesting in his work, he is no Dali (Salvador Dali being my favorite artist of traditional mediums) for sure but I do respect his courage for continuing to paint after all that he has been through.

 

Like I said, it's entirely subjective. I just enjoy his work more, like you enjoy Banksy more. There is no right or wrong.

 

Defienetly one of best art ive seen. I dont think you can make those with hand and scratch tho.

 

I had an Art History exam yesterday and Banksy was one of the questions. I was chuffed, he's one of my heroes!
