    question about being hacked

Seems I was hacked while I was away today.

I think the person that hacked me got the information from a kind of 'thread line' that he followed.

This is hard to explain, but all I need to know is, If I happened to have a main idea of who hacked me, and that person happened to be a possible person of this forum, can report him for doing this, and (if I could) who should I contact about this?

    Thanks.

    question about being hacked

Explain more, how exactlly do you think you got hacked? And how do you know you were hacked? If you are saying you followed a link on here, then that is called a Java driveby, these links are removed within a few hours at most and the poster perm banned.

    question about being hacked

I know it wasn't a java driveby. Can I can just get a point to who I can talk to about something like this? I don't want to give the information out to the public for obvious reasons.

    Thanks.

    question about being hacked

You can ask here about it, not really sure about what information you have to give out that you want to keep to yourself. All we'd recommend would be downloading Malwarebytes to scan your PC and make sure that nothing is left over. Sometimes a system format is your safest option though.

    question about being hacked

If you play RuneScape/any game that records your last logged in IP, check that to see if the hacker logged in on your account. Screenshot the IP, then make a Report a Scammer Thread/PM a Moderator with the picture, and they will check to see if it is a Sythe member.

But I suggest you download MalwareBytes, scan with that and your AntiVirus, then go and change all your passwords. You might even be temporarily banned here (just to prevent someone getting scammed) if a mod checks to see if your account was compromised. Once you have scanned, go and change all your passwords on everything.

    question about being hacked

I plan to change all my passwords after scanning my computer, but im doing that this saturday

yes I do plan on scanning after upgrading my anti-virus, but as I said I plan on doing that this saturday.

Well basically this is what happened:

At about 7:15pm today (EST: it is about 9:50 right now) I got home, sat down and was going to buy RSGP from this guy. I got all ready to do it, and then I couldn't log into my Runescape account. So i go to my email, and that doesn't work either.

(this is why I don't think he keylog/ratted or whatever else there is, but i still plan to scan and do a few other things)

But he didn't get access to my other emails. My main runescape email he got access to was a Hotmail account. I added a verification Yahoo email to it, and i got spammed on that email with with verification to changes on my hotmail account. These changes included adding a additional verification email, a phone number, and removal of my current verification email.

I rejected all of these, and reset my MSN password. I regained access to my MSN account. I then proceeded to recover my runescape account, which I did easily with a email recovery. I gained access to my Runescape account, and took a picture of his IP that he logged in with. I then proceeded to track the IP , which lead to West Sussex, United Kingdom.
I don't know if this is correct or not, but I then proceeded to track the area code of the Phone Number that he tried to register to my Hotmail account. That phone number was tracked (with an area code of 447) to Champaign, Illinois, which is obviously different then the U.K.

I saved a picture of the email and phone number he tried to register to my hotmail, and his IP.

The reason why I think somebody here hacked it is that I recently sold a Runescape account to somebody here on Sythe for the first time. Stupid me, though, gave him all the answers to the current recovery questions (or at that time were current) to that runescape account. In that process, I was talking to him on MSN... The SAME EXACT MSN address that is registered to my Runescape account (that was hacked, the same email that was hacked today)
So I think that he gained access to my Runescape account via using those recovery questions (which are obviously changed now that I have my account back) and then somehow gained access to the email, which was the log-in. I don't know exactly how he gained access to the E-mail though, because the email password was different from the Runescape password.

All in all, I just want to check this IP adress with the person that I sold the Runescape account to. I want to see if any of them match, in which case if one does correspond with the IP that hacked me then it was obviously him who hacked me.

    question about being hacked

    Hey there Aaron,

You're another one of those people that have their mothers birthplace as their recovery question on their email. Don't do this, it's guessable especially if you put it out there. I wouldn't be surprised if they manually sent a request for your Hotmail account as I was able to learn a lot of personal information about you including your parents names and your current address.

What you should do is change your yahoo mail ([email protected]) and your hotmail accounts security questions as they are both pretty easy. If you gave all this information away to this person, including anything that could link to your mothers birthplace. I do recommend using another email to keep all of your valuable information, another one for gaming and another one for personal stuff.

The guy that hacked your account is most probably an idiot if a phone number was placed on the account. You're probably looking at some 12 year old with weight issues, he's probably also the guy that scammed you.

    question about being hacked

Send a picture of the IP address to any Mod who is online (including Superman123321 as he is always on, but in hidden mode), and they will check the IP to see if it is anyone on Sythe.

^ If you wish to dispute an infraction then PM N4NO only as he was the one who infracted you. If it's private then the post that was infracted has been deleted.

    question about being hacked

So, we can rule out that you have a virus, seeing as the rest of your accounts have not been touched.

I've looked your post all over, and it seems like it'd be impossible to prove that the user who you sold the account to actually hacked your account by recovering your MSN/rs account. In the future, refrain from using real answers - try making up fake ones that you know you will remember.

Unless you have solid proof of the last logged in IP, the fact that you shared recovery questions & answers with the user... there's not much we can do.

PS: Sorry for the late reply.
