Dodgy Graphics Card temperatures?

Basically, I had my PC in an antec 300, gpu is a gigabyte 3 fan OC edition 6870, temps topped around 55c when playing blops. Moved into an antec 1200, and when playing blops it tops at 65c, and any other game sits at 52ishc. :/

 

That's with dual monitors, 5 chrome tabs, 3 windows explorer windows, and I'm halfway through copying 63GB from my external HD to the internal data drive on my laptop. So 69 degrees on a laptop and you're uncomfortable with about 65 on a desktop? I'd say as long as you're under 85 you're fine.

 

I'm fine with the temps, just more curious as to why in 1 game it's 10c higher then the rest.

 

That's odd, you'd reckon black ops would barely push your card at all, as all cod games since cod4 are console ports >.< My 5850 (as good as your 6870) overclocked to 925/1200 runs up to 86c max with a furmark burntest, and usually mid 70s during skyrim and BF3. MW3 doesn't even strain it at all, and runs sub 60s.

 

I don't like mine going over 80c. But I prefer to keep it under 60c, and the highest this goes now with the new case is 58ish. Laptops are usually more likely to get overheated than desktops, but 65c is fine.

 

Plus newer cards, especially the 6000 series, are rated up to 120c before they are damaged seriously. They can really take a whooping.

 

Well aware of the temps being fine. Just more curious to why one game is 10c higher then the rest.

What other games are less? Gotta realise CoD is coded for the modified xbox/ps3 graphics cards, and shoddy ports over to PC could leave plenty of unstable code. Its the game causing some sort of issue.

 

Yes, Black Ops is probably the most console ported title out of all the CODs. There is so much lag and stuff left over from consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if it's unoptimized and heats the system up.

 

MW3, SR3, few others.

But blops was also 55c ish before i moved it into a new case.

And MW3/mw2 is the most ported. Least blops had Mod tools, FOV changing, etc. xD


But meh, was curious, doesn't bother me.
