Yeah it is scary.

I read through that blog post that alt linked us too and who ever wrote that should be a motivational speaker.

 

They also have to pay fines worth a few million though.

On another note, in the Netherlands the 2 major ISP's have been forced to block thepiratebay from a court order. They are currently appealing it to a higher court but in the mean while it has to be blocked.

The other ISP's that not yet have been forced to block it have already been asked to do so by the anti piracy group here. They aren't going to do it either so they will probably be in a law suit soon aswell.

They don't have a very good chance of winning =\

 

That's sad. I didn't know MegaUpload was taken down as well...I remember when I used to use it all the time.

TPB can never be taken down, as there is nothing illegal about it.
Some finnish ISPs are forced to block access to piratebay, makes no fucking sense at all.

The site isn't gone, its just changed it's domain name. You don't even have to know the new one (thepiratebay.se) because thepiratebay.org just redirects there anyways. Not to worry, its not gone.

 

I doubt they really get 100+ views from N Korea.

 

is there any reason these sites that are blatantly illegal don't get shut down straight away? I've heard of people getting fines (RL friends included) for downloading content off TPB, but why not shut the website down years ago 0.o

 

There are various loopholes in the law that allow sites like TPB to keep operating. An example of one of these loopholes would be the argument that the site itself is not doing any file sharing, but it is the users themselves who are responsible.

 

Just go on invite-only file sharing websites. Regardless of if the others are around or not.

 

Because no single country can. It requires an international collaborative effort and a strong legal system to take down piracy. Because TPB is so big, and they have a legacy of being a resilient media site, I doubt they will be taken down anytime soon.
People in this world don't necessarily want to do what's right when there is a lot of money to be made in doing something that is wrong.
