Is it actually possilbe to become trusted on this site anymore.

Obviously I am a fairly new user myself, and I don't put to much money into trading, I just like to do little trades and I think of myself as completely legit. Scamming is something that just does not make sense to me, when you could make more money just doing trades following the rules.

Recently you see so many people, who have joined in 2011 who boost their post counts to thousands+ and donate hundreds of dollars to the site, and then get themselves banned scamming for less than they have donated or less than they could have made actually trading than boosting post counts.

All these people seem to make it so hard for us 'true' new users. Every time I see someone get banned that seemed remotely similar to me, vouches and donation wise I can't help but think it is indirectly affecting me, how if people who are more trusted than me scamming am I ever going to gain a decent rep here.

I really do wish I found this site earlier, nowdays it really does seem like the site is being over run by scammers. I'm not asking how to avoid being scammed, but how can we avoid the indirect affects of scammers?

Keep on trading without scamming and you'll get trusted. Join date, post count and amount donated shouldn't have anything to do with trust.

 

I think it does, if people have a decent post-count it shows time has been spent on the site. Donations reflect supporting the site, why shouldn't they be factors that help decide whether to go forward with a trade.

Obviously people do base trust on those.

Would you purchase the same item from a newcomer with no donations and a low PC or go with the guy who has a huge post count, been on the site for a while, has donated.. Saying they shouldn't be anything to do with who you trust to trade is ridiculous.

 

Honestly the ratio of scammers to legitimate people who visit this site is highly exaggerated. Most of the people who trade here can be trusted. The people who donate hundreds and then get banned for scamming, well, there aren't that many truly.

 

Plenty of people on this site than can still be trusted. All it takes is a review of their post quality, previous trades, vouches (Can always PM someone they have traded with RECENTLY for feedback). Many methods to verify a legit trader.

People see a 2012 join date, and often they are put off, as they believe it would be so easy for said person to scam, without fear of retribution, as they haven't spent too long on the forum.

 

Unfortunately this is true. I will admit that I am less likely to trade with someone that has a more recent join date, but I can say that if both parties involved practice safe trading (i.e. using a middleman, taking screenshots, etc.) then there won't be a problem.

I just wish more people would take the time and effort to trade safely, instead of either rushing through and risk getting scammed, or just blowing off the trade completely.

I also hate to see people blaming the website when they get scammed. Most newcomers aren't aware of the necessary steps you need to take to protect yourself, and turn those experiences around and use them to blame the site. This then turns away other newcomers because when they see those kinds of threads, they get scared.

 

I know where your coming from starting out for me was shit, i had to work about a week getting someone to trust me, also my friend has started on sythe and despite him being in a very good skilling team he hardly gets jobs, It's making it so hard on new users to get somewhere on sythe. and as you said the donar + posts ect, people turn him down because he hasn't got many posts, It's quite sad.

 

Agreed, I can think of only a few.. Cyberman, lucster, probably a few more.

I've met some very legit people with very little recoginition here who I would trust if needed.

 

Honestly, with the amount of times I've been scammed from buying accounts, I will simply NOT buy an account off someone unless they are EXTREMELY trusted (hundreds and hundreds of vouches with trades equivalent or higher to what I am doing).

I can't speak for everyone in the Runescape Account section who sells their account, but I am honestly willing to bet 95% of those people selling their accounts are going to recover it in the future.

 

I agree with you iv been in sythe for 1 year now using my friend account because he never used it.. and 30 min ago i just made an account "this one" i don't even now how hard it is to get 30+ vouches on a new account my friend said he wanted his accouunt back.. i mean if i gotta earn trust than ill do w.e it takes i guess

Post count does not mean anything. That quaked guy had like what 700 posts but he joined in December. He's banned..

Why would you have to get trusted again? Don't lose the trust in the first place!

I've done several trades on Steam (outside of Sythe) dealing with keys/giftable only copies ect., I just never go first unless they're trusted, nor do I ever trade with anyone if they have any ban history.

Once you lose your trust, you should never be able to gain it back.

 

I agree with all of these posts, What is the point of scamming on such a good site for all your gaming needs.

 

I can speak for playerauctions, that having hundreds-thousands of legit trades while usually is a good indication some people go out with a bang when they quit RuneScape, as in tarnish all reputation by doing a big scam.
It happened to me, I lost an account I paid $500 for and a purple phat and hundreds of millions of GP, set me back 1-2 grand lol.

 

We're not talking about losing trust and regaining it. If you lose trust that pretty much means you scammed, your now banned. you can't rebuild trust after that.

We're talking about gaining trust from scratch, not about why people scam either, this is a post for the legimate users not those who are here to try and turn a quick buck and worsen the community. Please stay on topic.
