My upcoming build progress report! [XBOX+PC]

COMPLETED!!!​

Finally I finished it! It looks amazing in person, I know there are a few cables in the back that are stray but they will be tucked back and not seen =) So happy, I will be posting a video this weekend walking through what all I did and hopefully answering questions if you guys have any!

Hey everyone! I am currently in the process of building an amazing machine that I would like to share with all of you guys! I will be posting pictures of my progress as they happen! It might be a couple of days between updates but I will do my best to keep you all up to date! So here we go!

General: I bought a huuggee tower to make sure there is enough room to look good and also allow large amounts of air to flow. The xbox MOBO will be mounted above the pc mobo with extended cables to the dvd drive and power block which is outside of the case. I wanted the theme to be random so what is random...Adventure Time! lol I am letting my friend at SCAD draw on it around that theme. I will also use a lot of fluorescent colors along with a black light. I just want it to look different and have a personality.

Time to trim off the sides to make the Xbox mobo more presentable!



After the plasma cutter got a hold of it (still rough edges).



After cutting out some of the drive slots to make room for the Xbox it is time to PAINTT (It is even lol lots of shadow)!

Layer 1



1.25.12 Outlined+Began coloring some of the fluorescent areas.


The outlines will be done in a darker black to stand out then covered in a clear coat.

1/26/11-A lot done today!


Well it might not look like it but a ton was finished up today. The pc face plate was sanded and ready for the last layer of white. I got the xbox components up and running and now I am just waiting on a dry day to paint. Drew a lot more on and colored a few things. I also have decided it would be easier and more efficient to run the original xbox power supply and not wire it to my PSU. I will be painting the power supply brick white and sleeving the cable UV white. It will also be pinned up the corner of the box so it is not messy. Good day.

1/29/11- More color

Well the inside half and guts will be yellow to capture the fun and bright theme. Also we have altered the theme so when it comes together you will allll see =p

Added so much to it wanting to get as many characters as we could! we also added the infamous snail that is hidden in every episode! HAHA it came out amazing! Shout out to my friend for the artistic ability he has!

Finished my painting 2/15/12



For sizing so you guys can see



I am just trying to show you guys what the spacing I was referring too looks like. The Xbox will be lifted up about 2 inches so that there is no way it interferes with the PC motherboard. I also went back and added a few paint touch ups on the inside where I removed some pieces of the metal.

As of now the fans are in and I have started sleeving all of the cables. I bought a 140mm intake fan 2 80mm exhaust and a 120mm fan will be exhaust at the top. I also bought a professional sleeving kit along with a CP cooler and a cooling system for the xbox from Xoxide.com. I will update once the cables are sleeved.

The xbox IS VERY PICKY when it comes to cooling. So make sure if you try this you have a large amount of air flowing over the heat sinks! Even outside of the case I had to have a larger fan on it to keep from overheating.

GOT THE PARTS TIME TO INSTALL EVERYTHING! 2-24


Sorry everyone for the delay. I have had some work issues to deal with and it was completely draining and annoying. I changed up the parts I got and will update the top section with them. I also sleeved the majority of cables inside blue to so I think it will look amazing!

All of the PC parts installed! 3/1/12


Everything is installed and started up the first try. Overclocked the CPU to 4.5GHz and is stable. It also looks beautiful!

Xbox Cables Hole


I cut a notch in the back of the pc where the Power Supply plugs in so that if you need to remove a xbox cable you take the psu down then slide the cable through the large space.

Stilts


I used some glued together shems to create stilts for the xbox to sit on so that it is above the PC components. It also creates more surface area for the glue to hold on to.

Xbox Mounted


I have the xbox mounted on the stilts with a piece of electrical tape in between them. I ran it all night to ensure that long duration gaming will not heat up and damage the bond with the glues.

COMPLETED ALL HARDWARE


YAY! Now it is time to make wires and everything look neat and add touch ups! Everything runs great even pulls a 7.8 WEI with only the CPU getting a 7.8! There still are a few Miscellaneous things I will update but for hardware, it is done!

Miscellaneous

Extending the SATA power for the Xbox DVD drive. I used the old cable and cut it in half and extended it with ribbon cable in the middle and soldered it all together =)

Face Plate for Xbox DVD



I cut a slot out of a panel so that the Xbox DVD drive could just slide out like a normal drive and still look good =)

Either that case is as huge as I think, or its out of proportion to everything around it, because it looks enormous. Do you really have the space for a case like that to be sitting around?

Looks like A good setup though, dual cards, and triple monitors . Would be interested in seeing a video once your completed, with all the parts working.

Haha yes the case is HUGE! It will have a pretty awesome look. so the size will not be a problem because the paint will be very "out there", Its going to be hilarious and a piece of art. I will update pics in a bit, we are drawing the outlines now for the paint =)

Game play video will be up for sure! And thank you all for the support! I am having a slight problem with the power source for the xbox and that might take some time so be patient with this one! I will also throw one up walking through it.

My only concern is heating. It would be worthwhile to install a water-cooling system. And what would be really cool is if you created an on screen GUI that allowed you to select PC or Xbox.

 

GUI selection may give you headache. Hardware buttons for selection/switch is more ideal.

 

Buttons are the route I am going. I also have a water cooling system picked out for if I have heating problems. There is so much space that I don't believe it will be a problem. I also will be adding 3 fans along with a CPU cooling system and xbox graphics card fan. Should get a ton of air flow.

Well I changed my mind now, I'm not going to use either. The wireless controler will turn it on And it will be connected to my vision tv mounted over the screens with hdmi. More pictures are coming soon I have been busy.
