How trustworthy is the Deep web?

I cannot speak to the entirety of the Deep Web, but trading with specialized companies (Such as Silkroad) that have links on the Hidden Wiki is very secure. If were talking about general flaws in security, you must realize that over 50% of people who order from Silkroad end up in federal prison due to the increased measures taken by US and UK shipping companies. If were talking about purchasing non illegal things, then yes, the Deep Web is almost perfect. Let's take for example: the Fake Store (I cannot remember the actual domain name as of now) delivers products fast and secure.
Here's where it gets difficult based on your definition of "trustworthy". The Deep Web is extremely unsecured in the malware sense. If you aren't 100% sure that your encryption is perfect, you are prone to being attacked and will be attacked.
Overall, you are both correct. If you stay on trusted sites, you will receive your product, but if you venture to sites like the Assassination Market, you are looking to be scammed.

 

We currently live in the EU (West) so shipping here is going to be slightly different. I was more thinking about sending your money but not getting any thing in return. From what I've heard shipping things around the EU is pretty safe and easy. I could very well be wrong though and if some one knows this better than me please comment.

 

Silkroad and all sites listed on the Hidden Wiki always deliver the product and provide a tracking number. The only problem is what happens after the post office received the package. You do have a very high potential for never seeing your package, but not at fault by the company. I would never suggest buying illegal substances from the internet (it's always safer to purchase at a club or from a dealer) but if you do, it is always possible.

If you do want to try purchasing something from Silkroad, open up a P.O. box with a fake name and send it there. Never use your real name.

Anyway, it's not exactly like you can go to the police or something if they scam you. Plus it depends what you purchase there, a lot of it is illegal and you may very well get caught while it is being shipped. It all depends who you purchase off on it.

 

Protip: when on silk road buy everything with bitcoins. Leave no paper trail. Theres so many packages that go through the post office every day, half the time the ones you get are sealed so tightly they never find it or smell it. If you leave no paper trail and the cops show up at your door. Guess what, I never ordered this. Tons of drugs get sent to random peoples mailboxes every year for no reason. Also if you do order anything I recommend getting a P.O. Box to get it delivered to.

 

On top of this, I guess paying from an internet café would be beneficial. That way they can't track back the payment IP to yours, I guess.

 

Disable JavaScript, use a non-standard Tor configuration and systematically scan for incoming connections and you're fine. We only scan for JavaScript enabled machines because they are extremely easy to catch and prosecute.

Are Mac's less prone to getting viruses from going on the deep web?
I am really interested by it and I want to go on it but I'm afraid of the viruses and such that people talk about.

 

Prolonged virus encounters aren't common on the Deep Web. Mostly, you should be worried about remote access and the like. There's a major problem with the Chans and BB's especially when it comes to brute forcing network encryption and gaining access to your network's attached systems (any and all of them). If you are running a secure set up with an out of system firewall and an amazing encryption, it's not as big of a problem. I use a Barracuda for mail and document scanning and a Cisco ASA5540 for incoming connection monitoring. Haven't had a single incident in the past three or so years.
Macs are just as prone to computer viruses as PCs are on both the Deep Web and the Surface Web and always have been.

 

What is everyone's obsession with the deep web? For anything off the silk road you could buy from a dealer without worrying that your shipment is going to be intercepted while going through customs or someshit and getting your ass jail time.

The rest of the deep web is straight up weird shit that unless you're some whack-job, will either be uninteresting to you or completely disgust you.

 

"The Deep Web," Freenet, and the like could become very useful should these internet censorship bills pass. I suggest learning how to use them properly if you'd like to be ahead of the curve.

OT: why is the deep web so risky? and how do you get to it if search engines dont? (like why dont the search engines get it)??

Edit: would using virtual machine work 2 get rida the viruses and stuff, if it gets infected just delete the vm?
