New RuneScape Members Prices, Increased Once More!

I find it ridiculous they increase it yet again.
I fail to see how them making a bad business move (Removing bots) is something we have to pay for.

 

I really just think they should let people buy back banned accounts.

It's a business not a charity. People will still pay it, so they increase it.

 

I already pay 7.95.

 

Yeah this is a result of botnuke, but I guess they have to pay for staff. Considering bots formed the majority of the game, I think that it is safe to say that not much new content will be released due to a lack of funding

 

That is a given, yet we end up paying for their 'unfortunate' choices.
Considering they simply say it is to cover expenses for upcoming updates, instead of "We gave you a bot-free RS, you will have to pay a couple bucks more per month" THAT I would have accepted, maybe even honored.
But because they go out of the way and blame it on something else I lose yet another hand ful of respect for them.

 

The demand for membership has gone way down since bots have been taken care of, so they raise the price?

 

so STUPID. i remember it was a $5 flat fee. now its 150% of that.

Not sure why anyone's complaining about this seriously most of the people on sythe purchase their membership off sythe from people who got them free illegally. No one's forcing you to play runescape. Jagex is a business and they need to make money.

Edit: And who cares why they did it posting on the forums talking shit isn't going to do anything and we're lucky they aren't charging $15/month like WoW.

 

Why is everybody bitching so much? The value of our currencies have all dropped by about the same ratio that Jagex just increased. It's an extra $24 a year, so go cry into your pillow for several hours.

It's really not an issue, and Kero hit the nail on the head. Inflation has bumped up our currencies, the price of everything else in this world is going up, so why should Jagex be the ones to lose money? The price is still cheaper than a couple of burgers at McDonalds, we shouldn't be complaining.

 

It's more on the basis of what yaroow said, they "claim" it's not because of the lost income of bots, when we all know it really is/ plays a big factor in it.

Do you have any proof that lost botting had any effect at all? Bots, unlike legitimate players, don't generate ANY extra revenue than simple membership. They also cost a lot with server maintenance to keep up with the extra 15-20k "players," and Jagex has to fund a large anti-cheating team, etc. Legit players, on the other hand, generate page views, view advertisements, and themselves advertise the game, contribute to RSoF, propagate gameplay by contributing to fan sites, and so on. Not to mention the average human probably plays about 10 hours of server-strain a week instead of about 70-140 hours a week. I'm willing to bet that Jagex lost "income" with bots but not significant profit loss at all.

On the other hand, the price of EVERYTHING in the world has risen a lot in the past 3 years. The electricity that Jagex uses for their servers, heat for their buildings, taxes on their Internet bandwidth, and virtually everything else needed to run a business has risen. It only makes sense that they have to increase prices to compensate.

Prices rise as the years go on. If you don't like it, join a communist society that has abolished currency.
