Why do people say they got hacked?

Friend: ffs, lost 323m, got hacked again
Me: No you didnt you were just an idiot and got keylogged

Hacking and phishing and buge abse are three different things I don't know why people don't understand such a simple concept.

 

If I've got what you said right, people normally do it so that they get free money given to them.

 

Basically the word "hacker" has simply evolved to mean anyone who tricks you on the internet

 

That's one of my major pet peeves as well. People who misuse the word "hack"

99.9% of the people get keylogged, RAT, phished, or some other crap I'm missing.

The 0.01% is the off chance that the individual person gets "hacked" but in that sense they would have to divulge some personal info already.

 

Along with what Video said many people don't use the term phished.. As it isn't frequently used as much, therefore people just use hacked.

 

The word "Hacked" (1)
Is reference breaking down a file bytes and editing them.
The referenced "Hacked" Such as "I hacked the tree down with an axe" is basically the same concept but over a computer.

The word "Scamming" (2)
Is reference of someone stealing from you with/without tricks.

The word "Keylog -- Keylogger"
Is reference of someone logging the keys you type. Causing reference (2) to occur on your account. This reference is not used of being reference (1)

The word "Phising"
Is a reference of someone making a fake of an real business such as; E.g "I made a Habbo retro, everyone come play it."
A fake website however usually used to scam people are make the similar website for private-servers purposes.

The word "RAT"
Is a reference for Remote Access Trojan. It's used to basically get into your computer, control it, keylog, send messages, go behind the system, etc. This can be the termed of "My computer was hacked with a RAT, Help!" This software is very detected now-andays with the new Anti-virus unless you get crappy verisons. You can't get your account hacked with a RAT though. When you type your password in.. it comes up as stars. and remember the Keylog reference?

I believe a lot of people don't know the correct word to use. Like a lot of people call phishing sites fake websites which they are, of course but it's not the correct word... If that makes sense.
For example: Chessy018. One of the richest players a while back had her account recovered. A lot of people said she got 'hacked.' Now that I think about it, it sounds a lot better than getting recovered.
'I WAS IRRESPONSIBLE AND SOMEBODY RECOVERED MY ACCOUNT'
or
'I GOT HAXED'
I think if I was careless enough to have my account recovered, I'd prefer if people said I got hacked. ^_^ Less embarassing than the truth, lol.

 

I'll use "hacked" like that. Hacked can simply just mean someone else getting access to your shit.

 

Hacked to me is when someone gets access to my account without me knowing.

 

Making up excuses and asking for donations. I get at least 1-2 people making up bs and asking me for money everyday and my response is always "Idgaf".

 

I know what people mean by 'hacked' anyway, they just can't be bothered saying 'phished'.

It honestly pisses me off how many people get "hacked" on RS these days. It is mindblowing how many friends of mine on RS constantly lose everything they have (or atleast claim to), because they got "hacked".

I try so hard to be sympathetic for them, but how the FUCK do you get hacked so easily?? I have been playing Runescape off and on since 2001 and not ONCE have I ever been hacked. The reason? Because I am logical and also very cautious when browsing forums, Youtube etc, and also I take my account security seriously. I have a very complex, impossible to guess RS password, recoveries set, and I change my bank pin every 6 months or so.

Come on people... it is COMMON SENSE!

I don't get how people get phished or scammed unless you have the intelligence of a brick then you shouldn't fall for it.

 

Nice list, but your keylogger definition is wrong. Perhaps it was correct before, but that is not how keyloggers work anymore. Their purpose has changed from logging, and emailing the individual keys you press, to emailing any and all saved passwords saved in cache and cookies to an FTP server.

 

On Runescape it isn't even half bad.

What really annoys me is when people on Facebook leave their laptops lying around and their Facebook logged in - and then claim to be hacked...
