SOPA/PIPA Internet Censorship Bills

I was surprised I didn't see these mentioned here, ESP with it's ability to affect sythe.

 

Well, there are posts about it in the General forum, but it's more asking people to sign protests.

Yeah, it could definitely affect Sythe and I really hope these bills just go out the window. The whole idea of censoring the internet is utterly ridiculous.

 

No it can not affect Sythe in anyway. It has been amended to only include sites hosted outside of the US.

 

It also most likely wouldn't affect Sythe.org anyways even if it did include U.S. based websites, as it's main target and priority is stopping piracy, not some kiddies on an online forum selling gold...

 

One link to a site that makes it so that people can defy copyright laws is enough to take an entire site down. It is the websites responsibility to remove such links and thus if someone posts a link to the pirate bay and we fail to remove it, Sythe could be taken down.

 

Can someone explain the PIPA/SOPA to me? I get the jist of it, I am slightly lost.

 

I honestly think there will be an internet rebellion if these bills pass. The entity "Anonymous" has shown already that hackers have the ability to do whatever they want if they want to. GG credit card Co's? .

Its a bill that would allow copyright holders and the government to essentially black list sites (censor them from everyone in the US) if they contain copyrighted materials. They would also force all US sites to stop doing any sort of business with them (ads, payment providers) and all search engines have to delist them as well. Essentially its block the American public from viewing a site if it contains one link to a site that supports in anyway copyright infringement. So that means its like using a cluster bomb to take out an insurgent that is hiding in a city. Don't just go shoot the one guy you want to kill, level the whole city.

 

I hate to break it to you, but Anonymous is dead. All of the true hackers are in prison or they created security companies to stay out of prison. The true extent to "Anonymous" is limited at distributed denial of service and will remain that way. The content that was released months ago by AnonOps (let's say Operation Sony timeframe) landed most OP's in prison. LulzSec is the last remaining famous hacktavist group, and they lost their true potential with Operation Sony as well.

If you want to talk about Anonymous as if they are hackers (which they aren't) then you have a lopsided view on the subject. Locating a private network's IP is elementary cracking and imputing that IP into LOIC is even more so. You want to find a true hacker? Disable your encryption on Tor and enter a pedophile chan and you'll find one.

If we're treating Anonymous as if they have access to an individual like Adrian Lamo, then were drastically overplaying them. The fact of the matter is, that if "true hackers" even still reside in the US and aren't in prison, they're working for large firms (that pay well) or government organizations and they're too busy with their seven figure income to worry about having to spend money for music.
