    Introduction to Trading

Trading can be used to advance in a game, in addition to adding some money in your pockets. Reading this guide will teach you the basics of trading throughout the Sythe.org Market.

    Basics of Trading

Before you start trading, it is highly suggested getting yourself a MSN for 2 main reasons:

    • Great way to communicate with the person you are trading with;

    • If you happen to get scammed it will be a lot easier to file a report if you end up getting scammed. (More information on this below)
    To download MSN click here
    You should also download puush
Puush allows you to easily capture anything on your computer screen and upload it for you. This is very useful when trading with someone. In case they scam, you will have some proof.

How to File A Scam Report

Reading this sticky here will help you filling a proper scam report.
Once you're done gathering all the proof you need, create a new thread here and wait for a moderator to give you an answer back!

    Trading

You have to find someone you want to trade with. When looking for a trader you should look for 5 things to determine their trustworthiness. You shouldn't choose any specific one of these to determine whether you should trust them or not, but rather all of them combined.

    1. Vouches : When looking at the vouches, always remember that quality is more important than quantity. Consider this: one trader has 100 vouches, for 10 million each (The amount that was traded, this could be anything: GP, accounts, questing, skilling, etc.)
A second trader has 1000 vouches for 1 mil each, which one would you trust more? You are better off trusting the first trader since he/she has traded and handled more at one time. You should also consider if they used a MM/OMM, went first or second and what the trade was for.

    2. Rank : A user that has earned the rank of Moderator/Administrator/OMM could be trusted a lot more than a regular user. That being said, users can be trusted more than people with ranks but with all I said you need to consider all factors. This should be the 2nd thing you look at to determine their trustworthiness.

    3. Join Date : If they joined this month I would be wary of them and if they joined a long time ago I would give them a little more trust points :). Note: some scammers who legitimately traded years ago come back and are now using their "trust" to scam. This should be the 3rd thing you look at to determine their trustworthiness.

    4. Donation Status : If someone has donated not only does it show that they supported Sythe but it also gives them a little trust points. The reason I say this is why would someone scam $50 if they donated $100? However some scammers use previously stolen money to donate, so this should be the 4th thing you look at to determine a trader's trustworthiness.

    5. Post Count : High post counts shows they spent time on Sythe and are less likely to waste it on scamming. Beware though this should be the Last thing you look at to determine their trustworthiness.
Scammers usually spam their post count up to give themselves false trust

Please use all of these factors as well as your instinct to determine somebody's trustworthiness.

    Do's and Don'ts of Trading

    Do

    • Request a PM
    • Take a lot of pictures
    • Don't rush the trade
    • End the trade if you feel unsafe
    • Use a MM/OMM as much as possible

    Don't
    • Rush the trade
    • Be pressured
    • Continue with the trade if you feel unsafe

How a Trade Usually Goes Down

The traders come into contact and decide who is going first (this is eliminated with the use of a MM/OMM) . The trader who is going first gives the goods to the other trader. The other trader then holds up their end of the bargain and gives the other trader what they traded for.

    Ranks

Many ranks have been made since Sythe.org exists, but what do they all represent?

If a player has the rank ''Trade With Caution'', you need to be careful when trading. Even though some of them only got it because their account wasn't secure, some others can get it because they have already scammed in the past, but they refunded their customer.
This rank is mostly given to a user, when The Staff think the user is a thread for Sythe.org

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Donator rank varies on the amount of money they have decided to donate to support Sythe.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Moderator can mean a lot of things, considering the good amount of rank there is.
All of them are doing necessary task all around the forums.

Administrator means they have been hand-picked by Sythe to help running the site smoothly.
They are the one who take care of the management tasks.

For more information about what each and every administrator task is, please click here.

OMM means they have completed a rigorous application and are Official Middle Men.

List of Rules to Remember While In the Market

Please also read the full list of rules for Sythe.org here

You will receive 1 infraction for breaking any of the rules below:

    • Spamming: Posting useless comments such as “nice account”, “cool”, “free bump!”

    • Excessive Bumping: you are only limited to bumping your thread ONCE every 8 hours. Deleting a previous bump and a new one without waiting 8 hours is also against the rules. When answering back some of the replies to your thread, avoid double posting!

    • Begging: Asking for free any items or accounts is not allowed!

    • Requiring Vouches: Requiring/Promising a vouch is not allowed, vouches are given when the buyer/seller feels you deserve the vouch!

    • Grave Digging: If a thread has not been posted on for a few weeks/months, don’t post on it. The only exception for this is in the Spam Forum.

Note: All Sythe.org Official Rules apply in the Market and a buildup of infractions will result to temporary bans and sometimes permanent!

    Scamming: Impostors & Fake Vouching

Unfortunately, scammers are present in Sythe’s community. Even though it’s only a minority, you better be aware of it.
Scamming goes from not giving the payment at all to impersonating others member and even self-vouching or if you prefer, fake vouching.
A rule was established to prevent all forms of scam possible:

A person caught in the middle of a wrongful act will be PERMANENTELY banned off the forums!*
    * in the majority of the scamming attempts.
** the banned user can always post an appeal.

    • Impostor
is one of the most present form of scam on Sythe.
An impostor is someone that will impersonate another member, by making an alternative e-mail that will look extremely similar to the current member.
To prevent getting scammed by an impostor, it is suggested to request a private message, which can be sent by clicking on the user’s name:

Writing a simple private message, as the following one, can prevent MANY scams:

Always WAIT until the user answers your private message. Make sure whoever is sending you a PM includes some of the conversation and leaves their MSN.

Make sure to double check that you’re talking to the right person, on MSN; Check in your MSN list, not on the chat window!

    To do:

    NOT to do:

NEVER check on the current messaging session, to verify the e-mail, as it can easily be changed.

    • The last but not the least, Fake Vouching.

A lot of people have been trying to acquire trust by faking their vouches or even self-vouching.
Doing so is counted as scamming, as you’re taking advantage of the system.

To know if the vouch is actually a real one, it’s as simple as clicking the small arrow next to the vouch:

If it happens that the arrow , showed in the above example, isn’t present, it’s definitely a vouch that you can NOT trust.

Another example of fake vouching would be this:

    1. [IMG]

Noticed how the vouches both look like real ones?

When you click on the small arrow, showed before, you’ll notice that in fact, the correct vouch is the first one, as the information in the second one got modified, which is considered as scamming [Fake Vouching].

Not sure if the Seller/Buyer is trusted? Use A Middleman!

    What's A Middleman?

A middleman is someone you can go to if you don’t trust the person you are trading with. They will try their best to make the trade go smoothly so no one gets scammed. There are two types of Middlemen:

    • Official Middleman (OMM)

An OMM is someone who’s MM Application has been accepted by the staff members. You can find a list of OMM and how much each of them charges here. To read more about OMM read a guide written by FlyingToast here.
Note: OMM will have this rank under their name!

    • Middleman (MM)

A MM is someone who is currently trying to complete the MM Application and they’re usually free of charge. You can choose whether to trust the MM by looking at their vouches and experience with the previous MM they have completed. You can find them here.
Note: Anyone can say they are MM, so be careful on the one you choose!

    Vouches: What Are They?

A ''Vouch'' is a comment that you leave to the trader or a middleman, after the trade, to tell other users how the trade was.
It is seen like a sort of reputation, as most users base how they trust a user over vouches.

A good example of a vouch would be this:
Try to briefly explain the trade; do not make it too complicated or too long.

Making it too short could bring doubts in the mind of staff members, as fake vouching isn’t allowed on Sythe. Vouches as the following one are poor quality and not worth much:

It is highly recommended to make a Vouch thread as soon as you enter Sythe to make things easier, by simply clicking [IMG], at your top left, in the Vouches Forum.

There's no need to bump constantly in this forum. I'll review this later, also.

    Not bad.

I noticed a few grammatical errors though.

    Nice basic layout and information.

I'm assuming this is not completed, as there's no ending summary to finish it off.

    Great job though.

Thanks Jeff for the feedback. We'll work on the grammar and also add a conclusion, even though we didn't think about the importance of making one.

I'll try to review the errors with the images but it might only be ScreenSnapr that is down, it happens a lot.
Tried to review the guide multiple times but we were 3 to make it and it's pretty long, so I find it hard to find all the mistakes :p

    Thanks everyone for your feedbacks.
