Would you give up your ability to speak for $10 million dollars?

Just a question I saw posted on another forum and thought a similar discussion could be interesting here.

So, the question is, would you give up your ability to speak permanently in return for $10 million dollars?

 

Nope, what is the point in having all that money if you can't communicate with family and loved ones by speech...well there is sign language but stress of learning that

 

I probably would. As sad as it sounds, that gives you over $100k a year to work with, and you'd never have to work again. Sure, it would be a huge defect on your quality of life, but with that amount of money, you would be able to comfortably live a happy life.

 

No. At first it might be awesome, but I'd eventually miss my ability to speak terribly and regret making the decision.

 

I personally talk way to much, and it would eat me alive inside if I couldn't respond even with a simple "Hello" or "No".

So the answer you're looking for is a No, from me at least.

Nah, I don't know what I'd even do with so much money without being able to speak.

 

Yes. I'd be a mobile stephen hawking with a device that translates keystrokes into words, or for around 1 million dollars, develop a device that reads my thoughts and translates them into my voice .

But I'd have to ask my wife first...

Hell no I would rather live a lower income life and be able to socialize with friends and do all the things i love instead of living a lazy boring high income life.

Speech is a man's most powerful weapon. Without it he loses the one advantage he has to challenge the injustices he faces, the ability to pour out his true feelings and the ability to question his oppressors.

Plus I'm sure it's worth a lot more than 10 million.

No, I would blow the $10m to easily, then I lost both.
