Clarification on what constitutes as an oversized signature.

I would most importantly like to bring attention to the part that says "including all quotes/text/pictures."

From my understanding, according to the rule a member's signature needs to completely fit inside the box below, or else they're violating said rule.

I've picked just a handful of the ones I've seen in my brief time here on Sythe.org, but I can assure you there are far more that fit the same description. I also don't mean to pick on any specific members, I am strictly using your name's as examples.

    Govind's current signature:

    Brendan's current signature:

    Zerkerfist's current signature:

Again, these are only a couple out of many that I've seen while browsing only a few different threads.

I also want to point out that I realize the text wraps on most people's signatures; therefore, if you make your window small enough the signature will be within the rules. My main question is why do the rules include "quotes/text" if technically you can always make your window small enough for it to wrap? It leaves an extremely grey area as to what breaks the rule and what doesn't.

    Thanks!

The text stretches to the width of your monitor..... For many people, EVERY signature with text is going to be 1920 pixels wide. Conversely, there actually is a minimum window width, which is set by the banners and stuff, meaning we can't go down so that every signature wraps past 350 px in height.

In other words, we only look for images if looking at excessive width. For the height, we look at images + text combined. If the signature has text and comes out to like 370 px or something reasonably close, then I personally just politely ask for them to resize. Usually the only extra height infractions I personally issue are like 450 px or higher, where it is obvious they simply did not pay any attention at all. (Almost all of these are people who put 5 or more vouch quotes in their signature, and it ends up spanning a good 500 pixels no matter how hard you try and drop the font face.) As you said, there is some variation on text height based on your monitor size and the font settings, but really there is a point where it's obviously just too big.

If there is too much text, it will exceed the limit when wrapped.

Also, some people put line after line of text, and they are all separated by page breaks. For example, the following would be too big since there is no wrapping at all. Everybody's monitor in the world would see it as higher than 350 px.

All right, that makes sense, so essentially the "quotes/text" part really only applies to the height requirement and not the width requirement. That clears up the main confusion.

So you're saying if we make the width 650 pixels, and the wrapped text exceeds 350 pixels in height that is a violation of the rules?

It would take somebody writing an entire essay in their signature for it to wrap that much, but technically yes. We realize most Sythe users use 1440 pixels or more for their monitor width, so I don't see any of us dropping down a resolution below that just to nit-pick the signature size.

This is all theoretical, though... I've never given an infraction because somebody's signature had too many words in it...
