Do you NEED college to have a successful life?

Starting college next year, is it worth it.

In the contemporary times, yes. You can't really get anywhere without some sort of education background now, unless you are going to work menial labor. Yeah, you might be able to start your own business and make it but in today's economical climate that isn't very likely. In most cases, in industrialized parts of the world, I would say college is almost a must if you don't want to work a back breaking job.

 

I'm in College, and will be for another two and a half years. I reckon I'd be getting a much lower paid job if I hadn't gone in the first place.

 

I must say , I do not find it is neccesary for you to be succesful , although it makes things easier , there are thousands of ways of making money. You just have to be creative.

Successful life? Define, please. You have a successful life as long as you can feed your family and live happy with them...

 

Living paycheck to paycheck is hardly a happy life.

OT: Yea, I believe college is pretty much a necessity to get anywhere today. You have your people who lucked out and get by just fine without it, but more than likely they are older, and have had their job for quite awhile, from the time when college was near as big of a deal as it is now.

 

No, college is not a must in order to have a successful life.

One solution is Military. You go in the military for 20 years, and retire, and you are making a good amount of money already. Next, you get a civilian job (that you don't need college for) for 20-25 more years, you're making 2 retirements by age 60ish. It's a good amount of time/work, but it is a "successful" life.

 

The military still requires you to go to classes or you don't get your paygrade increases, and if you get out of the military where are you going to work that will give you a retirement that doesn't require some sort of college education? Micky D's don't do retirement plans.

 

Nothing is needed, but it does help a lot.

 

If you want to get a good job, then yes. If you intend on flipping burgers or bagging grocery bags, then no.

The job market has been getting extremely commetitve. Gone are the days when you could have a corporate job without a degree. Most companies won't even consider you for a position if they find out that you don't have a college degree.

Of course, you can get a job without a degree, but it won't be paying any where near what you could get from a college degree.


The whole point of college is for companies to see that the person they're going to hire and been through the hoops and rings in order to be successful. They've worked their ass off to be where they are to be today.

So, it basically shows that you've been through training and are ready to hit the battlefield.

 

Some State/Federal jobs will hire you if you have no College background, but then military would be a must. For example, Department of Corrections (Prison Guards), they make $45k-$80k (depends on status, and varies per state) a year, and they don't require a college degree to work there, only military.

To determine if College is necessary for a "successful" life, it varies per person and what their likes/dislikes/plans are.

 

Yes, it is worth it if you pass and receive your degree.

However going to university/college is definitely not needed to succeed in life.

Many of the millionaires/billionaires of today did not go to university/college, some of them actually dropped out of school.

 

my point exactly , alot of the big time people of today dropped out of school.

 

My father is an Engineer of something. He makes a enough money to where my mom doesnt need to work.
He's about 45 now and he's worked for the same company for 22 years now.
Back when he was about 35 they said he needs to go to night school and get a degree to keep his job.
So you dont "really" need it to get a job, but my father did to hold it. So i think its a very smart investment so your not stuck with schooling bills when your older.

 

Depends what you'd like to do. There will be more work involved and more of a need to "prove yourself" without a degree.

 

If collage isnt for you you could always get your CDL (Commercial Drivers License) and drive a truck around. They make on average of 55k a year I believe and can get ALOT higher than that.

 

Lmao a small proportion yes, that doesn't mean he will become one, got to think majority of people like that have won the lottery or had a good buisness mind, and that needs logical, smart thinking.

 

Look at all your options and think hard about it. A few of my friends found out college wasn't for them, and some people just can't cut it. If you're prepared to be in debt until your late 20's or early 30's make sure it's something useful and desireable.

 

Not many people like to make collages for a living, so I guess being a truck driver would be nice but college is a better choice.


Without some kind of college degree you are less likely to get hired by anything but menial labor jobs, you will also probably not get a retirement, you will also not make as much money if you had a college degree, and most places where you start out working as a laborer will require you to get some sort of business degree to move up into a management position.
