New competition

I like the classic better than all of those submissions.

 

Yeah but with the competition more banners will be created and you'll be able to check those out and see if you like it. The banners Tyro held up were just from an old thread made a while back when the old Sythe banner was changed to the current Sythe banner.

It's always fun to have a competition like this

 

Would be exciting to see multiple new banners and some of the art that would come up from participants.

I'd love to see such a competition take place! With the likely introduction of brand new fun ranks as well, it seems fitting to revamp other Graphical elements of the site

Matthew seems to be a little more forum aesthetic orientated than Richard, so I'll see if I can get his input on it!

You have to very cautious though. People will almost certainly be submitting items that have copyright infringement in them, so this is kind of dangerous and will be time consuming for the judges.

 

I was thinking that one or the third one down from the top. Wit the gothic style lettering.

What kind of infringement? I doubt we'll get a single entry with infringement. It's all user-generated, no icons, and copyrighted fonts are rare. Am I overlooking something?

 

To everyone giving input on the examples I posted: thanks for your input, try to reserve it until the competition. I only posted those to show that we could generate some interest.

 

I think they mean fonts that instead of buying, they've downloaded online.

 

Most fonts are copyrighted for commercial use and are only for personal use in personal projects. You would have to either buy the font for commercial use (Generally quite expensive) or use royalty free font and each entry would have to be processed and checked for this.

 

Sythe isn't commercial though. Sythe doesn't make money, so in turn, a Sythe logo is personal.

 

Sythe does make money though. The owner of the font would still sue, either way because they did not grant permission for it to be used. It is better safe than sorry, because lets say I used Helvetica and the owner decides to sue. It is going to come down on Sythe for being the owner and displaying the work.

 

Richard doesn't personally make money from Sythe. Sythe is ran purely on donations. Richard could say he's using the font for his personal forum, which is actually true.

I'm pretty sure most of the graphic sales here on Sythe have been made with downloaded fonts which are for personal use only.
