    Need help with gaming Laptop

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop. I have a budget of about $1500. The laptop would be used to replace my desktop, so I'd like to have a 17 inch screen. I play Runescape, Skyrim, Battlefield, COD, and games along those lines, and would like to play them on the highest settings. I also do heavy photo and video editing.

These are the ones I have been looking at so far...

Let me know what you think of these... or if you have any other suggestions that are better, let me know.

    Thanks

The second one looks like the best value.

You should keep checking the US Dell Outlet for a refurbished laptop. Here's a link:

    http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=2201&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&dgc=IR&cid=63473&lid=1663856

Right now the prices aren't great, but if you're around when they update their stock then there'll almost definitely be bargains coming up.

I ordered a XPS 17/L702X the other week from the UK Dell Outlet. That model is worth looking out for, some come with a 3D or touch-enabled screen as well.

    The G74SX, definitely.
I have a G73 with slightly lower stats that plays anything. You will not be disappointed.

Just throwin it out there that I don't like Dell's, and wouldn't buy one. Definitely wouldn't buy a Toshiba either. Asus is a solid brand.

I would give a suggestions that are better than these laptop what you’ve thoughts. I got GT683DXR-427US recently, you probably should buy same as mine. GT683DXR-427US is very combination though.

That's above his budget. I could suggest things above his budget too. As far as I'm concerned, with a $1500 budget, the G74S is top of the line.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions and feedback so far. I agree, I'm not a big fan of Dells. I've had some bad experience with them. That MSI looks amazing, but that's pretty high up there. I was trying to find that model on New egg or Amazon to see if it's cheaper, but couldn't find anything.

Of those 2 G74s I have up, which would be the better deal? I'm a little nervous buying a recertified one with all the complaints about them coming in broken. (mostly the right side speaker)

With Alienware you are mostly paying for the name. They are really powerful and good, but they are expensive compared to the specs you get with them. Thanks though TxT.

Judging by my responses here, responses on other sites, and stuff I've been looking up, I think I will stick to one of the Asus machines. Now my only question is which? Do you think the lower cost one is good enough to do all the stuff I need? It has lower screen quality, lower RAM, lower Video memory, and a couple other things. They are still pretty decent though.

    True with the alienware.

But of the 2 g74's, the cheaper one is so cheap because it's refurbished, which means used and somebody returned it, they fixed it up a bit and are selling it to someone else. I'd never buy a refurbished laptop.

not really your thread, but I'll help.

The specs suck for most games. The gpu is shit. The ram is probably slow. What do you want to do with the PC?

Those will work fine with the computer. But for any new games on med to high setting will not work.

just one with a better gpu. A better proc wouldn't hurt either. 4-8GB of ram will suffice, but it's a dime a dozen so no reason not to get 8 anyway.. I use up to 5.5 just browsing the internet. But I'm a heavy user.

id recommend getting a desktop, gaming laptops = lol in my opinion. Not saying they wont be able to game, but theyll likely fry themselves into destruction ALOT sooner than a desktop. (example: 2 years compared to 12) not to mention u cant really upgrade a whole lot once u buy it. lul.

    Depends what kind of i5.

They won't fry themselves if you don't buy a piece of shit one. Sure, anyone purchasing a gaming laptop should know that it's not easy to upgrade, but that's no reason not to buy one. The only thing that will happen is that in a year, you may not be able to play the best game on maximum settings, but the laptop will never be worthless. lul.

Off the bat, customer support is terrible. If you want to upgrade any part of a laptop, you must purchase it through them, which means paying whatever they decide. It used to be that way for desktops too. I have like 4 or 5 old Dell's that I had been tinkering around with, all have some sort of issue that prevents them from booting up even to bios and the ones that do don't register any drives, they beep at me, or the fans are on full blast even though nothing happens. I'm not going to get into what's specifically wrong with them, but from what experience I've had, described here, and not described, I wouldn't purchase a dell. But nobody's stopping you.
