Drugs and substances. Say no!? What's your stance?

I'd like to delve a little into the subject of drugs and other substances used to alter ones perspective, I'm not for it and not completely against it, and I would like to get a little insight into what today's era think of it.

At the age of 22 now I'd say that I have experienced the ups and downs of using drugs.

At the Age of 12 I first smoked Marijuana that some friends and I found in my dads house, him being a heavy smoker it was something I was always around.

By the age of 14 I was addicted and smoking heavily every day, this lasted 5 years until I finally quit at the age of 19 as it was starting to cause serious affects on my mental health.

Through the ages of 17 to now Ecstasy and other drugs like Gas, Speed and Cocaine are the main party drugs of choice in my town and many throughout Australia, after abusing these substance for a few years It also had a major affect on my mental and physical well being and I have watched friends go to far to the point where that's all they do, and you think about where they will be in 10 years time. I now try to stay pretty clear of drugs like this and I have only smoked marijuana twice since I quit, although when alcohol and peer pressure are involved sometimes its hard to say no.

I have seen the effects that drugs have on peoples lives and I have experienced why people do it and how controlling it can be.

But there are studies that say Marijuana is beneficial to a persons health in some cases? And that LSD can be used to stop cluster headaches and has other medicinal property's.

What is your stance on drugs and substance abuse? Is it a similar issue in your country and community? I have heard that in the US that Ice (Crystal Meth) is a wide spread epidemic and it's ruining lots of young lives, what do you know? Are you educated enough on the subject to make the right decision if your offered drugs, if your thinking about using or are still using?

Edit:I would also like to add in alcohol as being a drug which I did not mention. Although it is a drug and personally its caused me more problems then any of the drugs I have mentioned.

I have lost my license twice and nearly faced going to jail for 18 months, I have injured my self many times whilst being drunk had fights with friends and fights for no good reason made a fool of my self and developed a bad reputation. But I still do it and I can't see me stopping until it kills me, I find that alcohol is one of the most addictive drugs and its widespread and and widely accepted all over the world yet it causes more deaths and crimes per year then any other drug apart from tobacco causing more deaths.

Drugs can be used in moderation and be perfectly fine, but that can also be much easier said than done. Anyone out there can fall victim to drugs no matter how much self control one has. You just don't know until you use them. I'm all for weed and psychedelics though as long as they are used responsiblely.

I've dealt with addiction with Opiates and Benzos on and off for 8 years now and also Meth, Ketamine and alcohol a few years back. Although it's much more under control than it used to be, I still struggle with Opiates mostly. I fear that my mental dependency with drugs will follow me for the rest of my life. As much as I enjoy doing them, I've still had plenty of consquences come with it. Withdrawals are common for me when I go weeks at a time without being sober. I've been arrested several times on drug charges. I spent 2 months in jail and have been on probation for most of the last 4 years. I still have another year of probation and if violated again, then I have to spend the remainder of my time locked up. I almost got arrested 2 days ago actually for a dumbass friend of mine. Luckily the cops were cool and let me off since I was on probation. Fighting all my charges has cost me over $10,000 and there is no telling how much I've spent on drugs alone. Sometimes I think about what my life would be like without ever using. I've had people ask me before that if I could start over, would I have ever used. It's probably the hardest question I've ever been asked and I can never answer it. I feel like drugs make life funner, but I also know I would be much better off without ever knowing what it feels like to use. I just got a pretty good job though and I hope to go back to school again in the near future, so I'm feeling okay about things right now.

Well firstly, Marijuana is not bad for you in moderation. I've tried a lot of drugs in the book, except Meth and crack, and I'm only 18. I feel if someone wants to take drugs, they should be allowed to. It's their body...

But I don't even consider Marijuana a drug.

My stance is that if people want to do drugs, more power to them, but I wont join them. I'll just let them do what they want.

I think drugs should be used very moderately only begins they allow you to think differently for a short period of time, which is what everyone needs to do every once and awhile. It becomes a problem once it becomes a daily thing. I now only use every once and awhile, and good things and ideas always come to me, but once I start doing it everyday, is when I lose my memory and starting self-assessing and having bad ideas. Moderation folks.

I don't agree with you, if you happen to have a problem in your private life, the first thing that you might do is to take drugs if it were legal.

People are going to take drugs either way, making them legal won't change anything. If you have a mindset to do drugs, you'll do them, being legal or not doesn't change many opinions. Think about how many people take drugs anyways?

It's not your body, so why do you care? People should be able to do what they want.

My stance on this is apparent. I love drinking and smoke weed when I want to. But I think that use when people are under 18 is a lil messed up.

Drugs and substances. Say no!? What's your stance?

Drugs are generally a bad idea for most people. I've seen far too much destruction in people's lives around me from drug use & addiction, and my own life has been deeply affected by drugs & alcohol.

I think a little bit of moderate "partying" is ok, like drinking alcohol occasionally or smoking a little bit of weed recreationally for enjoyment. But its when people get into the harder, more destructive drugs that I think a line is crossed from recreational/party usage into a much deeper realm of use, and a lifestyle that involves regular hard drug use. The worst thing that can happen to a person who uses drugs recreationally, is when they reach a point when those substances, no matter which ones, become such a regular occurence in their life that they become the normal way of living, and the person can no longer function without these drugs in their life. Even with minor drugs like marijuana, I have seen a number of my friends become so obsessed with smoking weed that it literally becomes all they do everyday, and their motivation and inspiration for life just kind of goes down the toilet as they turn into a lazy, unmotivated stoner.

Drug use should be up to the individual, however I agree that, with all substances, many people cannot contain themselves.

Like with Zerkerfist has said, I have been smoking weed for a little over a year. It started off slow, with my friends every once in a while. Now I'm a fucking pothead and life is so boring if I'm not high =/.. Trying to stop smoking but it IS very hard.

Drugs and substances. Say no!? What's your stance?

The main reason people don't like drugs is because they're spoonfed by the government and school to think that the second you're around it, you get addicted or die. Weed shouldn't even be considered a drug. It's not altered by humans (unless laced) and it grows naturally. "If you just so happen to set it on fire, there are some effects." -Katt Williams.
It's all up to the user/non user. My opinion of a person doesn't change when I find out they do or don't do drugs. I personally smoke bud almost on a daily basis, but still live an active life. I'm athletic, and make decent grades. I haven't experimented with many drugs other the pot, shrooms, some bars, and promethazine/codeine.

If someone does under 18, i think it's more of a popularity stunt rather than doing it for getting high and drunk.

Popularity stunt? I'm 16 and have done several drugs as I've already said, all voluntarily. I smoke by myself sometimes just to get away from things.. It's most definitely not to "look cool". That's one of the things that really pisses me off is when people go around, yelling at everyone about how they smoke weed or got drunk.

People really don't know what they are talking about when they say "smoking weed to be cool". It doesn't make you cool, it's the feeling you get. Nobody would do it if it was just to "look cool"...

I am against using any sort of drugs. Not good for you and is what the snake wanted in the apple that Adam ate in the Adam and Eve story. Be devout followers of the Bible and eternal happiness will come. Praise be the Lord.

Drugs and substances. Say no!? What's your stance?

I've never personally done drugs, though I have drank a couple times. Personally, I can't stomach alcohol. The smell and taste of it makes me want to vomit, let alone actually drinking it.

But on-topic, I've a few friends who smoke all the time. They prioritize getting high over many other things, and it's really quite obvious they aren't going down a good path. They've grown bored with pot, and have moved on to things like Ecstasy and Acid..

I agree with Zerker, occasional recreational use of pot is fine, but harder drugs are bad news.

Was never desperate or pathetic enough to try so hard to fit in. 20 years old, never drank, never done drugs. Figure that gives me 10-20 years on all the commoners that drink and do drugs, not to mention a much better life.

It's should be up to the individual to decide what they want to put in their body. However, they should willing to accept the consequences and take responsibility for whatever replications might come their way.
