New Barrows Armour Look

Thoughts?

Personally, not a fan...at all...of any set.

Just another unnecessary change by Jagex that pisses off the veterans like myself. Just my opinion though, I liked the old look a lot better.


Edit: Imo they should have just made these graphical updates into NEW Barrows Sets, that way maybe we can actually make some decent money from Barrows..imo it's shit money.

 

I like 2 of them I can't remember which but I just saw them and I think 2 outa the 5 are good.

 

My favorite set was Ahrims, totally crapped up the look. I liked the sets because they were a symbol of the past. I sort of wish they had just made new barrows sets with these looks. That would also create a way of making money. Barrows is still CRAP money.

 

Well barrows avg is 800k-1mil/hr just from the runes etc. If you get a dh helm or any other barrows item etc. It could easily be 2mil+/hr

 

I have a really hard time believing this, I used to do it all the time and made nowhere near that much an hour.

How much do you spend on materials?

 

The only set I think looks more badass than before is Dharok's. The rest I am not a big fan of, and there are 1 or 2 (mainly Ahrim's) that I am completely horrified by. Ahrim's used to look SOO fucking dope, and now the hood looks more like a swimmers cap and the staff looks so gay.

Couldn't agree more bro, Ahrim's was my favorite armor set in the entire game. IT looked soooo badass. Also, the sets seem so similar to each other graphically, what gives?

I guess I shouldn't be too harsh on Barrows from a money making standpoint, but I really don't understand the allure of spending hours at a small chance of getting an item worth a few million. I'd rather spend my time doing a skill that I know gives me sure profit (partially why I like RC so much).

They could have just made 6 new sets, it'd be a way of bringing money into the game and eventually it'd all even out. I just detest the fact that they changed a long standing item and completely butchered it imo. It's like symbols of the past in RS are being ripped away from us, like it's a completely different game. Obviously, in many aspects it is for the better...but things and updates like this piss me off.

 

I like the new Dharoks it looks like the agile armour (I've always wanted one but I hate agility lol). Veracs used to be my fave now it look ugly! the helm looks crappy now! everyones complaining about Ahrims lol, I havnt seen it yet

They completely ruined them all imo, why do Jagex change things what don't need updating? Aha!

 

Really glad a lot of people agree, getting rid of the old stuff really sucks.

Well said man, I noticed that this update definitely had a very negative affect on the oldschool RS players, myself included. The more old, classic parts of RS that Jagex decides to unnecessarily touch and ruin, the more it feels like Runescape as we know it as "dying", and that the old classic symbols of how great the game used to be are going to be destroyed and buried among all the flashy new content.

Ahrims just happened to be my favourite set of Barrows armour aswell, and I had a set of it purely for chilling in and hanging out at GE, hosting dice etc, and not it looks so horrible I don't think I will ever wear it recreationally ever again.

I also agree that along with the graphical updates to barrows, it would have been a MUCH better idea to simply introduce some new Barrows armour equipment into the game. This would bring more money into the game, breathe some life back into the Barrows minigame, and that way the old sets would still be preserved the way they were and the old Veteran players would be happy.

Also - the one major drawback of all the new designs is that they seemed to have completely overlooked the fact that all the new icons look nearly identical when the items are in your bank/inventory. All the platelegs/plateskirts look the same, the Ahrim's hood and robe bottoms look so square and have sharp edges like boxes, and the Dharok's set actually looks like it is broken when it is in your inventory... particularly the greataxe and the platebody.

I always wore my Ahrims while chilling in Edgeville and alching, now it's nerfed. I mean, we can sit here and come up with a thousand different iterations that would have meant we could preserve the old Barrows graphics, but sadly, we will ultimately be ignored barring a miracle as big as "Free Trade" coming back. Sucks so much man, that's why I hope the RS2006 project works out, but in all honesty that looks like it's months if not years from completion. I am sort of a pessimist though, so I hope I'm wrong.

Considering you seem very intelligent and savvy just generally and with Runescape, I'm assuming you've heard of RS2006 (.net) and I don't need to explain it.

They should ask players if they want it updated.
This game is not RuneScape now.. It's just runescape

Just another reason if these guys doing RS 2006 can get it running, I have a feeling a lot of people will leave actual Runescape.

 

Unfortunately there is nothing we can really do I highly doubt Jagex will revert back to the old Barrows look, especially not after their graphic artists worked so hard to redesign everything (even though that was completely unnecessary...). From browsing the forums and talking to people ingame, it seems like the vast majority of players are disappointed with the new Barrows look and at the least think a few things need to be changed, such as the look of icons in your inventory.

Sadly, pessimist or not, we can be almost 100% certain that Jagex will ignore most of the negative feedback. I spent 20 minutes of my time writing up a large, detailed, and most importantly, a respectful thread on the RS forums giving honest feedback. I just checked back on the thread and its already 10 pages deep with not a single response. I give up, there is nothing left to do except suck it up and deal with it and pray that Jagex thinks twice before making such a drastic change to a part of the game that is already perfectly fine in the future.

Yep, I agree they all look the same now. And less detailed, with the ugly "shiny" graphics. I loved the old looks, they were cool and a symbol of rs.

 

It's funny because we basically share a lot of the same views just generally, from what I've gathered from other threads we've talked to each other about.

It's nice to see a Sythe user actually take the time to formulate an intelligent and sometimes lengthy (if needed) post. It really makes me happy because this is one of the most knowledgeable and mature forums I've been on. Obviously you're going to have the scum of the earth scammers, that's literally unavoidable. But it's nice to see people like you perpetuating the positive posting atmosphere we need.

I, too, made a lengthy thread on the Official Forums, but was met with nothing but trolls or just "I agree" or "Support". Ultimately we are stuck with the new stuff, I saw a lot of other people praising the gear and saying the old stuff looked "outdated" and "crusty". Interesting choice of words for sure..
