What Am I Doing Wrong!? (MineCraft)

I tried placing blocks of cobblestone in front of my door I tried putting wood I tried putting torches everywhere but STILL somehow when I come back from a long trip I find all these monsters spawned in my house!!

My house is made out of:

Cobblestone and Wood Planks

Why are they STILL spawning in my house please help

 

Your house is very large, so you probably built it over a popular area for monsters to spawn. Last I heard you could do nothing to get rid of the spawn.

 

I built it not too far from a mountain of cobblestone and dirt.

 

a) not enough light
b) there might be a spawner beneath your house which makes them spawn inside your house.

 

Whats a spawner lol i'm still new to minecraft lol

They look like this and they basically spawn a random monster (You can tell by the type that's spinning in the middle). They're usually found in dungeons so dig around and see if you built your house over one by accident

aww but I spent 4 hours building it. Ugh...

 

All is not lost! Just mine under your house, there may be a spawner there and hopefully some treasure too.

True, but a waste of 4 hours lol.

 

For future reference I suggest building a small house, and expanding on it whenever you need more room. That way you won't have the same problem, and if it does happen you will be able to pinpoint the spawner more easily. Not to mention, having a huge house with nothing in it is a waste of materials.

 

You do not have enough light in the house. It is easily noticed that is the issue.

 

How do you know? Like not to insult you but if you see the image there is like over 20 lights in the house how is it not enough? Am I doing something wrong?

He has plenty of light (as stated above), and also not having enough light in your house doesn't spawn monsters.

No, where there's light no monsters will spawn.

 

Alright, just to clear things up.

1. Mob spawners don't spawn random mobs, just the ones inside of them.
2. Mobs spawn in darkness, I think it's a light level of 5 or less...
(torches give off a light of 7 or so, meaning that the block they're on has a light level of 7, the ones next to it have a level of 6, and so on.)
3. When you find a dungeon, which is a cobblestone square underground, partially made of mossy cobblestone and usually contains 1-3 chests and 1-3 mob spawners, it is a square. Mob spawners can only spawn mobs about 7-8 block from them and the whole square is about 7x8 blocks. This means that ether he mined right through one and failed to realize it, or there was a word generation error.

4. If you do happen to find a mob spawner, just light up the whole dungeon with torches and then look up " Mob spawner EXP farm" and I think you'll be happy you saved it.
